SPY VIDEO: Mercedes E Class

Still over two years away, our spies have garnered details on the next all-new Mercedes E?class, code-named W212 and due at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Mercedes will abandon SBC in favour of conventional brakes, although they will boast features such as wet-weather disc wiping and wheel-selective cornering brake control. Optional ceramic-composite discs could be introduced top-down, starting with the AMG models.

The next E?class will ape the S-class’s wheel-arch extensions, rising character line below the door handles, massive bumpers, and greenhouse. A more sculpted wide-frame grille, the more geometric nasal air intakes, and the wedge-shaped profile should give W212 a sportier stance. Actually, early styling models show a certain affinity for the most recent efforts from Lexus – such as the rectangular quad headlamps, the C-pillar treatment, and the taillights. This is, of course, ironic given that the Lexus LS is famous for copying Mercedes, but Stuttgart still has plenty of time to hone the shape.

Driver assistance in general is a major theme for W212. Expect lane-departure warnings, an eye-movement monitor, traffic-sign identification, road-condition sensors, and stability control that accounts for crosswinds, camber changes, and tire wear. We’ll get the usual V6- and V8-engines, plus a normally aspirated, 500-plus-bhp 6.3-liter V8 for the E63 AMG model.

People are just mad because a company less than 20 year old is doing so well. I've never owned a Lexus but appreciate them for mating elegance, reliability, and leaving out the 'snob-appeal' that other marques have.

It's always the same. The Lexus Fans have to talk about how bad Mercedes is and how amazing their Japanese Luxury Brand is.
But in reality Mercedes (especially the E-Class) owns the whole portfolio of Lexus. It is the most comfortable car in the upper midclass, its design is up to date and the interior is compared to Lexus what a Rolex is to Casio.

Companies try to reach their costumers by designing a car where comfort, sport and emotion come together and the E-Class is such a wagon - that's why most of the German Taxi Drivers own these cars.

LexusFanForever, what does Japan use for Taxis?

Only those that "think" they know about cars would pay.
But, besides that I have a question. Now what in the heck is this test proving? Driving 25mph in the snow, stopping, then putting the car on reverse, then stepping out of the car, then in again and kep doing that. Are they testing the heater here or what?

Did anyone notice the ghost-like fog/cornering lamps that seemed to turn on automatically corresponding with the turns.

LOL, I notice a lot of German cars running their foglamps unnecessary (so uncool IMO) and one is usually out. Are our xenons not bright enough?

It doesn't make your car look cooler people. Just get a car with xenons and use your 'fog' or off road (as if SUV drivers take their trucks 'off road' LOL)

LexusFanForever, you mean like the Timex digital clock in the LS460?

My comment about running foglamps has nothing to do with Mercedes cornering lamps (as depicted in the video). They were just curious to me for I did not see a turn signal activated as in other cars with cornering lamps (DTS, Maxima, etc).
