Mazda US Sales Cool In April With A Sales Drop Of 5.9%
Mazda North American Operations today reported U.S. sales of 21,060 in April 2007, a drop of 5.9 percent compared to the same period the year prior. Calculated on a daily selling- rate basis however, Mazda's U.S. sales were up 1.9 percent, as there were 24 selling days this month, versus 26 in April 2006. On a year-to-date basis, U.S. sales are up 11.7 percent to 100,134.

Combined U.S., Canada and Mexico sales rose five percent to 32,555 vehicles, compared to the same period a year ago. Mazda Canada had its best- ever sales month in the company's 39-year history with sales of 10,341 vehicles. Mazda Motor de Mexico reported 1,154 sales, more than double the previous year. "Falling consumer confidence over credit and housing uncertainties made for a challenging month for us and the entire U.S. auto industry, especially compared to last month," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO of Mazda North American Operations. "At Mazda, we feel we have the right products in our showrooms to keep our incentive spending in check and help us make gains in an increasingly volatile and unpredictable market."

Individually, U.S. sales on a carline basis were led by the MAZDA3, with 8,046. Even in its fourth year of production, day's supply at the start of the month was very low (under 40 days) for MAZDA3, and incentive spending throughout the month has been virtually nonexistent. On a year-to-date basis, sales of 39,972 MAZDA3s are up 29.8 percent.

The CX-7 and CX-9 crossover SUVs continue to appeal to customers looking for car-like drivability and economy combined with SUV utility and styling. CX-7 posted sales of 2,740 for the month, bringing its year-to-date total to 12,680. CX-9 posted sales of 1,776 for the month for a total of 5,469 for the first four months of the year.

Huh?!?!?! Did that comment make sense to anybody else? Is anybody else sensing the credit score may not have been the issue?

houston something wrong in houston? I can attest to the fact when i was in the car business if my finance manager came to me and said, we are going to lose a car deal over a 2 points away credit score i think i would look at him and say are you kidding or what. I agree with MBZ 350, something is not meeting the eye here take care?

HOUSTONCUTIE, I did not say that I was unclear on your post. Doing F&I for a major dealership you tend to understand the nature of credit and how to work with the banks. The Mazda dealer was absolutly correct, it is not them who loans you the money. It is the Banks that they submit your credit to that decide on whether to roll the car or not. We the dealers are not the lendors. If you were a bank would you want to give a loan to somebody with subprime credit with a high risk of the consumer taking you down in a bankruptcy claim. More than likely not. There is a reason most of the time that consumers have poor credit, it does not just happen by chance.

Produce more retracable MX-5. People get mighty angry when a company advertises a certain car and you at least want to see the thing and are told it is not being ship for another few months, then they try to sell you something else not good busines to do that.Stock the cars or shut your mouth about it?

If Mazda does not want your lease business, take your business elsewhere. The customer holds all the cards as he has the money (borrowed or saved) and the car company has the inventory. The guy with the inventory has to get rid of it or he goes under. Sounds to me like some dealers play the credit score card to justify a disadvantageous lease offer to disadvantaged customers. In any event, a lease is only a good deal if lease payments can be written off as business expenses, or, if the lease raete is so low as to be nearly the quivalent of using the manufacturer's money without interest. A potential lessee should also make sure he is not getting screwed by an excesively low residual value unless he plans to purchase the vehicle at the end of the lease.

Houston as a x dealer a man with 10 years experience should know better then to come back to the table and tell a customer their credit score is the reaon they can't buy, a green pea i can see, but a veteran of the business he must be getting burned out?

Lease deal looks good, does the $2189 include tax and lic and all dealer fees?

Look Houston here is how it goes, Mazda or anybody else has a point at which they put a proviso into a deal, in this case it is a super lease for good credit people which they have establish being a score of 640 which i still don't understand the salesmen telling someone the corp cutoff point as to credit score, he should leave that to the finace dept who he should have introduce you to when this could be a deal breaker. No matter, i don't see Mazda losing this deal over a 638 score, there is a simple way for them to get it done and the contract being put thru and you get your car. Yes there has to be a point where a client doesn't make a lease rate or fianance deal because of very low credit scores that is par for the course in the industry, but 2 points away is easy to handle try another dealer?

Houston> $3500 with all fees is still fine. Houston is the 4th largest city in the US lots of dealers want your busines, drive to another place even if you have to travel, i know with Houston's traffic this can be rough but believe me unless something else is the sticking point, you should get this machine at this rate.

Look this is going nowhere Houston, if you were in the business first of all you should know you don't walk into a dealership and insult the dealer by saying this is no darn Lexus? Mazda doesn't care what you are comparing to their car to, because you are at this dealer because most likely they know and you know you can't afford a Lexus. Sorry to get sharp with you but in the back room that is how us car guys talk, then we come out of the tower as you know and act all nice to someone who just insulted us which means we don't have to work hard to put you in a car we just dismiss from the dealer which they did.

Houston,
People who have money or who are intelligent do not have to broadcast it over this site. Like you said lets stay on the mazda sales subject.
Being in sales I am sure you know that again IT IS NOT THE DEALER THAT LOANS YOU THE MONEY! IT IS THE FINANCIAL INSTITUTION THEY USE. It may be Mazda credit, Chase, Wells, Wachovia, ... etc,etc,etc...
And please take your caps lock off it is very obnoxious.

In closing on this most enlighting post of Houston:
If you are well healed then go buy the car, then go to the bank with your friend and draw up papers at $3500 down cash, $189 a month for 24 months. Become the leasing company Houston, this way you and your friend don't have to be insulted just because a business wants to check you out to make sure they get paid back in a timely manner those big bad people???

A credit score of 640? Am I the only that thinks that pretty damn low? Anything under 720 is just plain awful in my eyes...

I'm in the market for a new car and I currently have an 04 Mazda3s, and one of my vehicles on the "list" in the Speed3, which, has no lease specials or incentives, but Mazda will give me $1000 over KBB on a trade, so I just may buy one...loaded with Nav, 0-60 in 5.8 seconds...better in the slalom than a G35 or 330i...all for $26k
