Here's proof that Citroen is set to come out of its shell when it comes to car design - because the 'tin snail' is back!

These pictures show how a successor to the 2CV is shaping up. Boasting a thoroughly modern interpretation of the classic design, it has its eyes on the lucrative family car market.

Based on insider information, our pictures show what you have to look forward to. Taking over where the Evoque concept car of 2005 left off (Issue 865) the shape is instantly recognisable and couldn't be confused with anything else.

As Fiat has done with the 500 and VW with the Beetle, Citroen has followed the current trend for reinventing classic models. By cashing in on the charm of the original 2CV, the French firm is set to launch into uncharted territory - going up against prestige models such as BMW's MINI. With the same curved bonnet, slab sides and covered rear wheels, it looks just like the original 2CV, which first appeared in 1948.

Awesome and sexy? are you guys looking at the right car or have a picture of a Lambo next to you? lol

French cars were, are and will always be one of the worst cars in the world, and my God the Cetrion is the ungliest and worst in the bunch.

At least the Renault and Pegeote have some ahh nice models, but a Cetrion? lord oh lord!!

Peugeot had the world's first folding hardtop in 1934, Citroen had the most advanced car in the world (the beautiful DS), which had a clutchless manual (a la BMW M5), headlights that turned in corners, hydropneumatic suspension (as employed by the new LX570) that adjusted ride height, and was just amazing.

I agree. If Renault, Peugeot and Citroen were in the US, I'd certainly consider them. I've never been in a Toyota/Lexus/Scion, Honda/Acura, Mazda, blah blah boring blah showroom. Renault and PSA have made great strides in quality and safety during the past 10-12 years. It wouldn't surprise me if they did re-enter our market.

This car has a lot of character. If they can make it big enough, with an aluminum body and a pure diesel instead of a hybrid diesel, and, avoid falling into the CVT trap, I just might reward Citroen by buying one even though I don't really need it. I can always give it to my granddaughter when she is old enough to drive.

Now here is an interesting idea, make it a high mileage diesel or make it a hybrid. The original car was slow, they won't miss anything by making this one a slow hybrid. I think that is the Mini and the VW bug came in hybrids it would not hurt sales, most people who want a hybrid would value style over perfomance anyway, and classic designs have alot of that. There should be no need to have to buy an ugly prius if you want to save gas.
