Hyundai considering Veloster and Hellion for Generation Y

Hyundai is considering the Veloster and Hellion concept cars for production for Generation Y buyers in the United States. “There’s actually several (vehicles under consideration) right now, and we’re doing research on each of them,” Wayne Killen, director-product planning for Hyundai Motor America, told Wards Auto.

The Hyundai Veloster concept (pictured above), which debuted at the Seoul Auto Show, is a front-wheel-drive 2.0 liter DOHC 4-cylinder with 5-speed automatic. Hellion (pictured below) is a compact three-door sport crossover with a 3.0 liter V6 engine that produces 236 horsepower.

Killen admitted to Wards Auto that one of Hyundai’s biggest challenge right now is to develop a vehicle that appeals to Gen Y.

Hyundai is also considering the i30 compact wagon for the United States that will compete against the Mazda3 and Toyota’s Matrix

who has the most to fear of this new Hyundai: Ford, GM, Toyota, or Honda?

My money is on Toyota and to a lesser degree Honda. The youth really do not buy Fords and GMs. They drive them if the cars but dont really buy them. Honda still would retain the "racing" crowd and anyone who is "green". I think Toyota would get hit the most. Their cars are usually bought for reliablity. That is actully one of the only reasons you buy Toyota. If Hyundai proves to be more reliable or if their price is substancially less, i can see them stealing a lof to Toyota's customers.

Lets bust that myth. Hyundai have a long way to go before they challenge Toyota ...

As for Green vehicles .... the only manufacturer that gioves your over 3 types of hybrids is Toyota. Or make that the most successful Hybrid manufacturer...Or make that the one holding all the patents ...

That leaves sports vehicles ... in which case apart from the civic Si and the odd S2k Honda has NADA...
Hardly the benchmark to call Honda a sports car manufacturer ( Mazda has more / Mitsu - Subie have better ones repsectively . Not to mention Nissan)

Of course brand Toyota has none (but Scion has one and Lexus has another few (sports sedans ))

Please note that i am playing loosely with the term sports car - it can mean sporty car OR sports sedan OR car that is trying really hard to be sporty OR look Ma! it has a spoiler ..

That's a pretty nice concept for Hyundai. A good direction for the company. However we all know all production models are always trimmed down than the concepts.
