Should We Crack Down Harder On Reckless Driving?

A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge has sentenced Paris Hilton to 45 days in L.A. County jail for violating her probation in a reckless driving case. Judge Michael T. Sauer handed down the harsh sentence, telling Paris she will not be allowed work release, furloughs, use of an alternative jail or electronic monitoring in lieu of jail. She must do the time!

An emotional Paris, with tears welling up in her eyes, told the judge moments before the decision "I'm sorry, I'm sorry." Witnesses inside the courtroom say that Paris' parents, Rick and Kathy Hilton, were both visibly upset as the sentence was handed down. Kathy, we're told, was especially distraught.

she knew she wasn't supposed to drive but she did... that makes her guilty. Plain and simple. All I can say is that's one hell of a prison-prize!

Not sure you know this, but Jail is different than Prison. They're not sending her to prison, she's only going to jail.

Jails are for the people awaiting trial or for those who have been convicted of a misdemeanor, and are serving a sentence less than one year. Prisons are for people who have committed more serious crimes, such as murder, rape, etc. and are serving long term sentances.

45 days jail time is just a slap on the wrist. I'd be surprised if she does any jail time due to overcrowding, they'll pobably let her sign the papers and send her home.

Personally i don't think her sentence was stiff enough. The judge should have sentenced her 3 to 6 months at the very least.

Problem with stars or spoiled brats such as Paris, and Lindsey Lohan are they get away with too much. Any ordinary citizen would have been thrown in jail on any repeated offence.

It's time for judges to crack down and serve stiff sentences to stars no matter how famous they may be.

These seems to be a double standard that stars get away with crimes that the ordinary citizen would be thrown in jail without blinking an eye.

When i hear of any stars being arrested for drunk driving or that they do drugs i personally don't feel sorry for any of them.

They worked their way to the top, to only lose it all on drugs and what have you, and then they expect us to feel sorry for them.

Paris should have been thrown in jail for at least 6 months, and use those 6 months to remove all that air between her ears and educate herself.

She'll write a book about her experiences in jail..and like Martha Stewart, make a fortune doing it.
Rather than reckless driving, the law should crack down harder on drunk driving. And while they're at it, outlaw driving with cell phones as well. One of these days I'm afraid I'm going to be T-boned by a matron driving a 4 ton Chevy Suburban chatting away on her cell phone.
