Spies break biggest scoop so far in 2007? We spill the beans on the upcoming Tesla Electric Sedan

There are scoops, then there are hot scoops and then there are MEGA scoops.

This one falls into the category of a MEGA scoop!

Exclusive information leaked to AutoSpies.com by a Detroit supplier reveals hot new info about the forthcoming Tesla Electric Sedan.

We all know how amazing the technology and the buzz surrounding the Tesla Roadster is.

Due to the success of the roadster the company has also announced a sedan was in the works.

But what we didn't know was WHO would be designing it and what it would look like.

Would it be done in house or would they farm it out?

The Spies have learned that Tesla has hired the Fisker Coachbuild company, founded by Henrik Fisker (aka BMW Z8, Aston DB9, etc.).

Sources tell us that when it debuts, it will look EXTREMELY similar to the next generation BMW 5-Series (Hence the next-gen 5-series sketch showcased on our homepage).

Odd - I thought the Tesla Roadster and the follow-on White Star were made by Tesla Motors of California, not Lotus. Do you have information about Lotus making the White Star car or some ownership of Tesla Motors?

Talk about a winning combination. Silcon Valley will make a mockery of ICE and we're-working-on-it-for-always-10-years-from-now-fuel-cell drivetrains, and Fisker will reveal a gorgeous design that shows the BMW styling team as a bunch of talentless egotists.

I like that sketch so if the new 5 or Tesla sedan look like the sketch above then I'm cool with the design at least.

So far, there's been a lot of marketing hype. Let's have some full disclosure about corporate development plans, financing arrangements and realistic launch dates for the product itself. Do you remember how long it took the current Bugati to get off the ground? I'd like to be reasonably confident that this new venture will not follow Tucker, DeLorean, and Bricklin into automotive history.

Good news, but color me skeptic. Last I heard range is down on the Tesla roadster. I commend the company for their dedication to electric propulsion, but we need to work on battery capacity. I'm sure that this is the future, so perhaps they are a little ahead of their time.

Yes running into Walmart and buying a years supplies of AA batteries is not my idea of progress. Combustion engines can produce 35 or more mpg but like the drug companies the lobbyist don't want to mess with billion dollar profits that the oil companies and countries are ripping the public for.
A short commuter car is fine in electric mode but when you travel coast to coast you want the gas powered auto and yea it can be very fuel efficent.
It will take a full blown crisis of epic magnitude for this country to realize it, but that is how things are done in the USA disaster first then comes the "how did we know" excuses?

Glad to hear what the White Star will look like. I have been wondering for a while how it would look, and so far all I have seen is a variety of proposals, none of which is ready for prime time. Please send me pictures soon!

For the rest of you who have questions about Tesla, spend some time reading the blogs over there (http://www.teslamotors.com/). Tesla is very transparent about the technology, their choices and trade-offs, and the business model. Everyone from the top down seems to have written at least one blog, and they take the time to listen to your comments and answer your questions.
