But will it get a manual 6 speed tranny? Is this as close to an "R" car as we'll get? My expectations have got to go up if their gonna keep half steppin in the performance market place.

I drive an R car now and it's an awesome automobile. No, I don't think it'll beat an M3 or an S4(I can run with them). Volvo's got a great idea and a large loyal crowd, they just need to listen to Nike and "just do it".

For the amount of money you dish out for this car you're getting a hell of alot of tech for the dollar.

2004 V70R w/ the 6spd. It runs pretty darn strong and has proven to be fairly bullet proof for the last 52K miles.

What do you mean they are just OK? Volvo is actually capturing a large portion of the market and it is not because they are "OK"; they are actually superb at what they do. Yes, Volvo is trying to reach into the performance market and they are doing pretty well in that area. But their number one priority is still safety and they are excelling in that arena. Remember just because you think they are doing "OK", professionals are actually stating that they are doing phenomonal. Ask yourself this question, "What is the safest car to drive"? It is still Volvo.

Underdog car for the ladies? It is still the only car that will last you an average of 20 years; and it is really not a ladies car.

A much, much more impressive car than Car & Driver give it credit for. With this T6, who will spend extra for the V8. Best thing on the V8 is the rumble which sounds beefier than AMG cars. Aside from that, this T6 should be amazing. Now, since Volvo has had I6-TT in the past, is BMW copying them? With the new BMW/Volvo rumor, this would be great with the BMW powerplants. Only true downside of the S80 is the lack of bluetooth that was supposed to have been included in the Audio package.

Alot of people are unaware of BMW's shortcomings; yes they are great performance cars but their longevity is rather flawed. That is why BMW owners get rid of their cars after 4-5 years. Why do you think there are always so many on the lot? I grew up in Germany and the only reason Germans purchase BMW's is because they get you to point A fast but in a study that ADAC conducted the average German stated that they would prefer a SAAB or Volvo over a BMW but the reason they sticked with BMW is because to purchase a SAAB or Volvo, they would have to pay the Export tax. The same Volvo S80 that we would purchase for $40,000.00 costs them 58,000.00 Euro (not dollars but Euro!)

The point is that European fans here, bash cars like this (not the magic feel as they say, ugly desig, copy etc ) like hell! How this car survived from euro fans hurricane? Maybe, is this an undistinguished company? I dont see the fire here.
