I think is mid-30s price is very possible, considering the GS450h costs only mid-50s and the next gen hybrid system will be cheaper.

FT-HS will not use high quality plastic & leather like GS450h, will not have Mark Levinson and will use much less steel etc.

yes, the LEXUS GS450H SEXYHYBRID uses High Quality and Reliability woods and plastics and leathers!!!!!! so much better than any "Mercedesbenz" or "AUDI" or KIA. LEXUS rules over all!!!!

This was the only car worth looking at at the NYIAS. I'm extremely happy they've decided to build this car.

FT_HS: Future Toyota Hybrid Sports Car

"... we were more captivated by what Toyota technical guru Paul Williamson told us about the fundamental challenge of getting hybrid technology to work in a sports/performance application: Batteries are physically unable to dump electrons fast enough to get the shot of acceleration you want, or to take them back in fast enough to get the full benefit of regenerative braking in hard, quick stops. He described a layout that will be in essence two parallel systems, one for energy storage and another for transfer of energy in short bursts. Nickel-metal-hydride will be the battery type for the former, but of the latter, Williamson said, "It's something else, and not really a battery at all. It will have some of the characteristics of a capacitor."

Don't forget, for ~$35K, the FT-HS will run 0-60 in less than or equal to 4.0s, and return FE of 30mpg, not ~15mpg like RS4, M3 etc. nor 23mpg like IS-F.

I doubt some of those figures, especially 4.0 seconds and 35k.
I expect 40k and 5.0-5.5 seconds. A 300hp 335 only does in 5.5 seconds, and it's around the same size, and the Ft-HS has a folding metal roof.

5.2? For the GS? I thought 5.7...but maybe I'm thinking 0-100 kph (62 mph). I still think 4.0 is too quick a time, you really expect it to be quicker than an IS-F and RS4? With a folding metal roof? That adds loads of weight, an SLK weighs as much as a CLK.

I also just read in Rand and Track that Toyota will produce a new smaller sports coupe based off the Lexus IS platform sometime in 2009 as the new MR2.

FanBoy, I thought that was exactly how it is now? ES is based off of Camry, RX is based off of Highlander, GX on 4Runner and obviously the LX/LC? Is the SC based on anything? Hmm...

MR2 based on the IS? It was a mid-engined car, no way it could be based on the IS.

And hey, do you really know how capable the SC really is?

Sure it look disgusting and it has squishy-smooth suspensions,
but THAT car WON the Japanese Grand Touring Championship in 2006.

If there are plans to produre an SC-F, it will be a seroius competitior to other German luxury hot-rods.

This looks amazing! I would be quite pleased if Toyota came out with this car- I don't know if I could ever find an excuse to put one in my fleet, but it would show that Toyota hasn't lost its sports car mojo... it just needs to make sports cars to make it come back.
