VIDEO: BMW 3-Series design schooled by the new Audi A5?

Schooled, no...better looking, yes. Though the on the road the A5 can be mistaken for a sedan at first glance, the 335i looks more 'coupe-ish'.

This car needs serious diet. Looks like a copy of 1st generation Merc CLK.

Steering wheel looks really good though.

I think so too. I LOVE the new designs but there are too many similarities between all the Audis. Same grille, headlights, ect. The bad thing about that is when u get used to seeing one the rest are no longer as exciting.

The 3 coupe looks more sporty and elegant at the same time, the a5 is ok but nothing special. I think the design is to heavy. BMW know how to make a holder for the gasoline deck, but not Audi! is just hanging there when you put fuel on it.

Photo does not do this car justice and fire engine red does not help. I saw a much better photo the other day that showed the gorgeous side view of an A5 coupe. Aa for the BMW 3 series, not enough room for me.

these cars arent in the same category, so you cant really compare, because the audi is suppose so be more luxurious, thus having more room, giving the car almost a whole different shape, but i gotta admit, both the audi and the 3 series are really great looking cars.

Actually, you're wrong. They're direct competitors. The A5 is one inch longer than the 3 Series coupe. Why does everyone have the idea that the A5 is so much larger than the BMW?

New A5? I question the use of the word new to describe any design by Audi. There cars have looked the same for the last 10+ years. There is nothing new, nothing interesting, and certainly nothing attractive about this car. When Audi actually attempts a redesign rather than changing the shize of the lights by a millimeter and bending the metal one extra degree, then maybe they will have something that competes with BMW. Until then, they are stuck in the early 90's with their designs.

I have to be honest, I find the 3-Coupe more interesting to look at than the A5. Undoubtedly though, the A5 is more elegant. Interesting vs. Elegant. Hmmm...

Will, you're contradicting yourself here. The S-Class is more "interesting" than the LS, but you have said the LS is more elegant. Which would you choose?

How am I contradicting myself if I clearly stated I'd take the more elegant LS? You're just pushing me to pick one or the other. Do you really want me to do that?

I agree, this will date quickly. Especially since VW has adopted that grill on a lot of their cars.

And I still think the 335 is better looking by a slim margin.

I don't know if any of you guys are seeing the same car. When I first saw Audi's press shots, I wasn't sure what I thought. Was it boring or was it fresh and completely different? Well, after seeing this video, I can say WOW! Audi has done it again! The 3 is beautiful, too, and I'd have to see them both on the road first, but I can say with confidence that the two are probably the most evenly-matched cars from Audi and BMW, ever. Some BMWs are better than Audis, and some Audis are better than BMWs; for this, it's hard to say.

I don't think the A5 looks old (IMO it's better looking than the 3er), but you have to admit the TT already looks old, not bad, just been there done that.

S4Cab.: Although the A/S5 may be approximately an inch longer, could the Audi have more interior space thus giving the impression it is larger?

The A/S5 just looks big and heavy... The 3 coupe is much sleeker looking...
