Russian tycoon could save Chrysler

Chrysler could have a possible savior in the form of Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska and the company he indirectly runs, Russian Machines. Magna International Inc., the last remaining bidder for the ailing carmaker, has announced that the Russians would invest close to $1.54 billion to help improve Magna’s standing in Russia and other nearby markets. This injection of funds could be just what Magna needs to take control of Chrysler.

Isn’t it ironic that one of the great American carmakers might come under the control of a Canadian company backed by the Russians. You can bet Lee Iacocca never imagined the strife Chrysler would be in when he was running the company twenty years ago.

Chrysler doesn't need more money, they'll just burn it all away again. No one can save Chrysler....no one.

If ANY company needs money, they they look at their stincking product line and fix it to be better. Chrysler needs money now ONLY so its big guys can steal more of it, nothing else. Chrysler cars will still be junk just like the remaining "big" 2.

With reference to above comments, it's easy enough to stop financial bleeding by getting rid of the bleeders. Once you install a management team that knows how to conserve funds instead of squandering it away, you can actually end up with a profitable company. I'd love to know what kind of a deal has been made with unionized workers ahead of the acquisition of Chrysler. There is no way the company can remain competitive even with the best of management if health care and other costly issues are not dealt with. product improvements are always desirable but I do not think there is anything fundamentally wrong with the majority of Chrysler's products.

Chrysler can be saves look at the 300c, the new charger, and the magnum... they just need to get rid of the other shitty models like the durango and the dozens of other cars that no one wants to be seen in. good designs and faster autoshow to show room processes could save the company
