What company will beat BMW to market with a hydrogen model in 2008?

Fuel-cell vehicles are electric-powered. The electricity is generated by a fuel-cell stack in the car. The stack mixes hydrogen and oxygen in a process that produces electricity and emits water. Nearly all hydrogen is made from natural gas, abundant in North America.

Hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles are seen as far-horizon solutions to U.S. dependence on oil. The feedback that Honda and GM would get from individual users could help tailor fuel-cell cars to mainstream tastes and thus speed development of the pollution-free vehicles. Honda (HMC) says it will put a sleek hydrogen fuel-cell sedan into limited production next year and also will sell a unique mass-market hybrid in the USA within two years, priced less than the $25,000 Civic hybrid.

Mazda will be coming out with a hydrogen-rotary soon.

GM is also serious about fuel-cells.

VW/DCX was also seen experimenting with fuel-cells.

BMW already has a hydrogen powered car on the market, it's just not fuel cell powered, and the delay for it to be mass produced and marketed, is the distribution net for hydrogen, obviously delayed because petrol companies want to sell as much fuel for as long as they can...

This post doesnt concern Lexus...

Ok so... The Hydrogen cars are infact the best solution to fossil fuels and electric vehicles (which need regular charging). Emmissions are actually water/vapor (drinkable i believe) I personally would not buy a hybrid for one, it uses gas just like every other car, its not cost efficient, and doesnt really help the earth all that much if at all. plain and simple.

We will need a completely new infastructure, not to mention mass hydrogen-production facilities.
The entire cost of retooling and 're-wiring' is going to be phenomally high.
Commercial mass-production of hydrogen on a grandiose-scle (for our auto industry) is still years away from becoming a reality.

This is not to say that hydrogen tech does not have a future, in fact it does.

Yep, hydrogen fuel is the near future, later water, air maybe. I too don't believe in hybrid gas electric, since what they offer is way less for what they cost.

The skateboard platform may be used for hydrogen-rental fleets very soon.

No it won't topple any car manufacturer anytime soon. The reason is that to run a hydrogen car a person needs hydrogen. What I am trying to get at here is that there is a serious shortage of hydrogen fueling stations. So unless hydrogen stations are available as widely as gasoline there won't be any difference to any manufacturer.

a hydrogen only car is not remotely possible because there are only a handful of stations in the entire country that pump liquid hydrogen. hydrogen only vehicles would require building a massive new infrastructure. that will take many years. a gas back-up is mandatory.

If Honda succeed in making the most reliable hydrogen vechicles in the market, it will take over the auto industry for sure.

Honda, put some of that hydrogen to good use in the next NSX, and I would order one please. Imagine the waiting lists for this hydrogen vechicles.

The Japanese auto industry is taking over the world's auto industry for sure, if the trend continue.

Screw the whole hydrogen fuel cell thing. By the time they start mass producing hydrogen powered cars, we will have already discovered how to extract crude from shale and the U.S. and Canada will become the largest exporters of oil, in the world, and we'll change the currency to American Dinars and Canadian Dinars and the rest of the world's currency will be complete rubbish!!!!
