Ford, Honda Get Top Crash Test Scores

The 2007 Acura MDX sport utility vehicle and the 2008 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable passenger cars received top scores in new crash tests released today by the insurance industry.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave its highest score of "good" in front-, side- and rear-impact testing for the vehicles, built by Honda Motor Co. and Ford Motor Co.

The MDX, Taurus and Sable received the institute's "top safety pick" award given to vehicles that receive the highest scores on the crash tests and have electronic stability control.

Volvo safety engineering could potentially change our idea of Ford I suppose. I expect the rating from Acura/Honda, but am impressed with Ford even if I would never buy the car. At least the rental car will be safe.

Tests don't prove much. The only real valid proof is in the form of statistics that show deaths and injuries per thousand vhicles on the road for different makes and model years.
