Top Gear: Prodrive P2 - basis for Aston Martin’s Ferrari competitor

We reported back in April that Aston Martin could be planning a mid-engined supercar that will compete with the likes of Ferrari. While there is no word at all on what the car will be called and what its specs will be, eyes are on the Prodrive P2. The Prodrive P2 is a two-seat supercar concept with a Subaru WRX STI powertrain that showcases Aston’s engineering.

The Prodrive P2 is powered by a 16-valve DOHC 4-cylinder engine that produces 350 horsepower giving it the ability to do 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds with a top speed of 174 mph.

Subaru WRX STI power train eh? Is this a prelude to further consolidation in the auto industry like some sort of marriage between Aston and Subaru?

A four cylinder super car exotic, not sure if that makes sense. Especialy for AM's portfolio. That sounds more like an elise fighter than an enzo fighter, but that doesn't make sense either for AM to have a tiny car, thats out of character.

Stop making stupid assumptions.

Subaru supplied the running gear for this car as Prodrive and Subaru have a strong working relationship forged on the success of the Prodrive-built Subaru WRC cars.

Any future Aston Martin would benefit from the Prodrive-developed technology in this car, (this car is a showcase after all) but of course no Aston Martin would EVER to Subaru-powered.

This GMcartech article is flawed and inaccurate.

eGMCarTech is hardly ever inaccurate. We do a lot of digging before posting something. While everyone was a little slow and reported the Ferrari News recently.. the actuall news reported by AutoWeek back in April.

Is Aston Martin poised to take on Ferrari with its first mid-engined supercar? That’s the tantalizing prospect made possible by Ford’s sale of the British sports-car maker to a consortium led by Prodrive’s David Richards, backed by Kuwaiti investors and featuring Texan investment banker John Sinders.

Richards, who will chair the new company, said at the press conference announcing the Aston purchase: “Aston has to look at some of the things that are being done by our competitors, like the Audi R8 and the Japanese brands. We believe we can expand quite considerably.”

Richards’ comment could be taken as a sign that he wants to build the Prodrive P2, a 2006 two-seat supercar concept with a Subaru WRX STI powertrain that served as a showcase for the British company’s engineering prowess.

see for yourself. You guy seem to think that if Aston's builing a Ferrari competitor it has to have a HUGE engine and HUGE body... at the end of the day, it's the specs that matter and while 350 horsepower may sound small... a 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds is amazing
