Disappointing IIHS Crash Test result for 2007 Lexus LS460

MARGINAL test result for the new LS??? Whats happening at the toyota safety engineering dept?

How come IIHS is biased against Lexus when they barely pass safety tests but when Consumer Reports throws Mercedes to last place they arent Biased?

IIHS actually TESTS the vehicles and there is no getting around the final results. CR is just a load of bull based only on "peoples comments" now thats Biased. JUST A THOUGHT

There's no such thing as a fake crash. Maybe a staged crash? This is even better because they can impact the test vehicles with the same device at the same speed and strength insuring they are EQUALLY tested. So theres no Bias here, Only facts

They don't do real rear-crash cars but just take out their seats to measure.

Lexus don't need to worry, the LS can drive itself thus meaning it will never crash...haha!!!

No matter which cars it's compared against, a "Marginal" is always a low score. Unless the other big sedans all get bad scores, this is still a disappointment.

The A8, S-Class and 7 Series haven't been tested yet. I doubt that any of them would recieve a "Marginal" score, especially the Audi and Mercedes.

lets put the is350 against the large german brand autos and see how that works out to next.

Don't know what all the noise is about. This is nothing new. Considering the number of appliances Toyota churns out, you would think that they would be capable of building a few cars that can ace the IIHS's tests, but they can't figure out how to make one. Instead they're pre-occupied with marketing gimmicks..hence hyping anti-collision systems. Don't get me wrong, Anti-collision systems are a very good thing, especially when augmented with a solid car design, but they're not as effective if you're riding around in a coke can with horrible brakes. Lets see what pre-safe will do for you when an 18 wheeler climbs over you like a speed bump. See the "real world" Audi TT - trailer encounter below, and note that the driver sustained only minor scratches..The car did its job. For the ignorant, Audi was the first and only manufacturer to have 3 models in the IIHS top pics, and they build the safest cars: period!! Only the almighty will save you when the brakes of your LS engage and you're still traveling forward..better practice jumping out of it while its moving..the outcome may be safer than having the coke can deform on you.

The A3, A4, A6 and Q7 have all gotten the highest ratings possible by the IIHS. The A3, A4 and A6 recieved this all at once in 2005, while the Q7's was 2006.

The Lexus LS460 will be an expensive car to maintain when smashing it into trash cans.

It should be "Audi builds" not Audi build.
It should be "LS has" not LS have
It should be "Did you miss" not did you missed.
Its Lobotomy recovery patients like you that give Lexus a bad name; a brainless post like that reflects poorly on the tasteful Lexus drivers out there, and that's even before reviewing the content.

The A8 was not tested, but if you can think (and I know you find that difficult if not impossible), you can only surmise the it will do well considering the results of the A3, A4 and A6
The TT was not tested either
The IIHS has not tested the Q7, but I'm pretty sure it will set the benchmark when they do. Its aced the NHSTA tests
It is not surprising with your reasoning ability or lack thereof that you would interpret not tested to mean its not a top pick. This may be a revelation to you, but its very very very difficult for a car to make a top pick or worst pick for that matter if it has not been tested!!!!!!!!!

About the silly article you reference. I saw it but I don't waste my time commenting on articles that are obviously hopeless. I've read no less than 8 different articles from a wider variety of sources that show the entire opposite..so a staged attempt to rectify the situation will not impress me.. Even Lexus management talked about bringing in a sports package with uprated brakes to help improve braking and handling so I wouldn't give credence to silly rigged Japanese videos.. Enjoy your 21st century Buick, but like I alluded to earlier, figure out a way to save yourself when your brake pedal is mashed down and you're still moving forward long after you should have stopped!!

Yup. More anti-Japanese bias. They only rated the LS's rear MARGINAL because they want to deter people from buying it. Everyone knows that the backseat of the LS is the best seating arrangement in its class. ;)

It's not suppose to crash guys. The pre collision system was not prepared for the crash test. Its job is to avoid a crash all together. Lexus....what will they "not" think of next. Maybe they'll make seatbelts and SRS systems an option again, that would justify poor ratings.

Lexus ALWAYS understates their 0 - 60 times by at least .5 seconds. Here are the results of the 5 Top Luxury Cars in this test which was reported in the January Issue of Car and Driver. Please note these tests were all done on the same day at about the same time and at the same altitude. The results reflect the average of 3 runs and all cars are the 2007 vintage.

Mercedes S550 5.6, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.1 (Benz show 5.4 in their specs)
BMW 750iL 5.7, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.2
Jag XJ Super 6.0 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.5
Lexus LS460L 6.2 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.6
Audi A8 6.8 0 - 60 quarter mile 15.2

Note that Lexus, as usual, is more than the 5.4 the manufacturer CLAIMS to get by .8 seconds.

Also note the LS430 (prior model the LS460 replaced) was rated at 295 HP and was actually 278 when Lexus corrected their rating. And there were no refunds or apologies from the so-called "quality" car company. ABC - Always Be Careful what you buy from the Lexus people.....

this is for you lexusadmiirer if you really want do a google search for the top three safest cars. Th eAudi A4 The beast Acura RL highest score and one other I forgot, but it's not a Lex. This years MDX took the highest score of current cars tested.
