USA Today Test Drives The Honda FCX

USA Today Test Drives The Honda FCX
Whine. There's always the whine. That's the thing with electric motors. They whine.

That was the aural signature of the Honda FCX prototype sedans whizzing around the makeshift track in the parking lot of RFK Memorial Stadium here.

Two things about that noise. Probably not much will remain when the limited-production versions of the fuel-cell car are ready for market next year. And the fact it could be heard means the rest of the car, even in prototype form, was quiet.

It will be interesting to see how the automaker deals with the noise issue. Honda knows people want to hear something when they step on the throttle. Otherwise there's little to reinforce the feeling of acceleration. A noiseless car can seem sluggish even if it's not. But what kind of sound, and how do you get it from an electric powerplant?

The FCX's interior is very nice, and it looks almost production-ready, but best concept car interior? Are you kidding?

Please.. stop it, its an auto website not some political website.

How about you stop following what your f**ked up media tells you and go and see it by urself??? NEVER judge people but what you have seen somewhere because that is less than 1% of the people here in the middle east. You want me to prove it? Visit any country here and you will see.

Makes me wonder why we have less crime rates than the U.S BY FAR! You think we are uncivilized? Or a bunch of baboons exploding themselves or killing people for no reason?

By the way, honor killings has nothing to do with islam or muslims. Check the religion before judging. Infact, it is impermissible for a muslim to kill a person just because they caused shame to the family.

"The climate, the 'religious' and social climate is such that people can do that in daylight and that authorities do not intervene," said the spokeswoman for the Organization of Womens' Freedom in Iraq, Houzan Mahmoud.

Thats a lie and if you want proof check the religion.

Never mention politics here please, and lets move on.

bimmermike, it's nice to know that you can blindly post a Middle Eastern-hate comment, forgetting that some people here are from there... but that you follow up by insulting someone after you've heard they live there, that's just the icing on the cake. Bravo.

Nice to know ou visited Lebanon which had a civil war not so long ago and is still under construction. Very smart of you really..... How about you move your lazy butt to somewhere that didnt have a civil war? Maybe you should see Dubai moron.

Your ignorance cannot be described in words..... all I have to say is that you are clueless....

Russia is not a civilised country. It's getting there, but right now it's somewhere behind Iran in Civilised stakes.

Holy cow,

Can't we just agree that there is no such thing as an angelic or evil country and move on?

If Americans wanted to be energy independent they could be tomorrow. We Americans (as a collective) aren't willing to make that sacrifice. We'd rather pump our 15 mpg SUVs full of $4/gallon gas. We don't like little cars, reel mowers, bicycles, buses and trains. Most of us don't even know that they make fluorescent bulbs that fit in lamps and ceiling fixtures.

If Arabs just wanted to be left alone, they could be. All they'd need to do is leave alone the US and Israel.

Stop blaming the liberal media. Unless you're reading 'The Nation' or 'Mother Jones' or listening to Pacifica, in the US, there is no liberal media. Unless you mean that anything without a conservative bias (Fox, Washington Times) is the liberal media. Just because one entertains the notions of a round Earth and gravity doesn't make one liberal.

Why should we be concerned about the sources for energy? Anyone who has any historical knowledge knows that alliances and adversarial relationships can change very quickly. The basic truth is that we should be concerned about preserving our planet for future generations rather than whether or not fuel sources come from friendly or stable countries.

Last time I checked, Palestine , originally an arab country, was taken and made as israel. So how do you expect us to leave israel alone? Its like someone stealing your car and then you just ignoring him. DOESNT WORK.

I have nothing against the US, infact I have many american friends. Its just the goverment.

About blaming the media, you people really know nothing. Let me guess what they told you at the time of the lebanese israeli war... " lebanese people are terrorists, they are killing those poor israelis and scaring them.... how sad and heartless from those lebanese". Well guess what, I WAS IN LEBANON when the war was taking place. Ive seen it happen. I've seen people die infront of me! Ive seen israeli jets bombing the whole country! Ive seen them bomb civilians! Then on your news they say they bombed army areas... how true! hahaha! You people really need to wake up....

anyways I guess i have solved my problem with bimmermike, so lets go back to talk about cars.

You guys are funny. You guys are soooo blind. Opinions are like elbows-everyone has a couple, and yall cannot seem to keep 'em out of the way.

The fact remains that 99.9 % of the western world have no idea what Muslims believe. Read the entire Koran and make up your own mind.

99.99% of the Near, Middle, and Far Eastern World have no idea why Christians believe in Jesus. Read the entire new testament and make up your own mind.

Until you start to read for yourself, and stop regurgitating what others say, then all you will ever be is a mindwashed parrot.

Back to the car! Not the most pratical choise of fuel- natural gas? Not very logical when America only has a few percente of it! What is the cost of the car? I bet only celebrities could afford this! And where would one go with this car with no infistructure? As far as sound is concerned, who cares when electric motors are way faster than gas motors! Although I will miss the growl but power as a tradeoff is worth it!
