If Americans wanted to be energy independent they could be tomorrow. We Americans (as a collective) aren't willing to make that sacrifice. We'd rather pump our 15 mpg SUVs full of $4/gallon gas. We don't like little cars, reel mowers, bicycles, buses and trains. Most of us don't even know that they make fluorescent bulbs that fit in lamps and ceiling fixtures.

If Arabs just wanted to be left alone, they could be. All they'd need to do is leave alone the US and Israel.

Why should we be concerned about the sources for energy? Anyone who has any historical knowledge knows that alliances and adversarial relationships can change very quickly. Back to the car! Not the most pratical choise of fuel- natural gas? Not very logical when America only has a few percente of it! What is the cost of the car? I bet only celebrities could afford this! And where would one go with this car with no infistructure? As far as sound is concerned, who cares when electric motors are way faster than gas motors! Although I will miss the growl but power as a tradeoff is worth it!
