New G37 3.7L Engine May Outpower BMW's New Turbo Motor

New G37 3.7L Engine May Outpower BMW's New Turbo Motor
It’s been well documented that BMW’s new twin-turbo inline six from the 335i produces significantly more power than its official 302hp rating suggests. We reported earlier about a test of a brand new 335i Coupe on a dyno, which resulted in outputs from the motor ranging from 282 to 300hp at the wheels. Estimating drive-train loss of roughly 15-20%, this equates to roughly 350 to 375hp at the flywheel.

The publication that ran the earlier tests on the BMW, Automobile Magazine, has now run Infiniti’s new G37 Coupe on the dyno and achieved some exciting results for the 3.7L V6.

I'm sure that any BMW engine is still better than the one that's in your Rice Rocket. BMW makes great engines and great performance cars. You read too much tuner magazines and you dream too much. Get rid of your Honda Civic already. Quit wasting money on rims and exhausts thinking it will add 100 more horsepower.

your car probably requires some after market springs to handle well while the BMW 3 series handles well from factory. Get with the program. The Import Tuning phase has passed. Don't be offended it's true.

I think because the infinity has a torque converter while the BMW has a clutch.

We already knew the G37's power was comparable, and that BMW underrated theirs... whether this is true remains to be seen.

do the numbers really matter that much? i mean the one thing that matter to me is a full test, about how a car drives, how it feels, and how it is to live with; a few more or less bhp or tenths of a second afterall notwithstanding...

Dawn! look like the BMW 335i is having some serious competitor here.

I'll take normally aspirated power over a turbo any time especially if the engine is made by Nissan.

Don't you read reviews? The BMW twin turbo is designed to drive like a normally aspirated engine by providing consistent power across the range rather than a big rush all in one go typical of other turbo engines. Every review of the BMW engine I've read suggests they have succeeded.....anybody who has driven a BMW using the engine have a comment?

And you think people who add turbo's into their little Honda Civic won't bring theirs to the track and blow them up as well? You think a tuned car isn't more prone to blowing up than a factory turbo'd car?

You're funny.

sigh.......yet another 335 vs G37 or 35. They are both good cars and target somewhat similar audience. So if you were limited by your budget and really wanted something comparable to a BMW, you can go with an Infiniti G37 or 35, which offers the best bang for the buck. If you think a similarly-equipped 335 is worth that extra 10000, go for it. Nevertheless, nothing drives like a BMW for those who have owned a variety of cars over the years of their youths. Just as long as you don't regret your purchase decision.

S4, because it the fact, and were comparing the BMW 335i and the Infiniti G37 again. What the matter if I hurting your feeling?

If the BMW 335i "Cannot" handle four laps on the track, what make you think it handle better than the G37 on the street? Is that what you German call magical feel when the BMW 335i went overheated on the four laps? LOL :) magical feel my a$$....ha...ha...ha...

You mean like the Audi R8 or R10 that caught on fire on the test track? don't get me wrong the R8/R10 is a very nice sportcar. They just got to make sure that doesn't happen again, know what I mean S4?

Lexus you think too narrow minded. You don't think outside of the box and what contributed to the fire that ignited on that R8 on the test track. There is no perfect cars on the road and every brand EVEN LEXUS has faulty production models.

Also in regards to the 335i overheated after four laps. Do you know how hard he may have pushed the car just to test how much it could take? what if it's just testing? you obviously don't know the answer to that nor do I so you can't base judgment on a car because of what you read or see. Just because one car was reported overheated or caught on fire it doesn't mean all production models will be the same. Another thing is 'magical feel' has nothing to do with the car overheating. It has nothing to do with how a car drives get it right.

The R8 by the way is IMO supercar territory with its look and its performance.

Quit bashing on the Germans and laughing because the username you use on this website is Lexus. Lexus doesn't even have a sports car so there is no right for you to say a BMW doesn't have the magical feel. No Lexus does that's for sure.. Don't tell me the SC is a sports car. It's a big heavy sluggish turtle and we all know that.

Don't feel offended kiddo I'm just defending against your comments. There is no biased based comments here. It's true. I own an LS and an S class so I love the Germans and Japanese cars.

So answer me Agent63, what is that magical that everyone talking about? I hope it not the overheated that happen to 335i?

And to answer you question Lexus will have performance segement with their up and coming , Lexus IS-F, LF-A and GS-F.

First off learn how to spell. Second, I don't know about this magical thing everyone is talking about but I do know that the 3 series sedan/coupe drives well on twists and that is a fact.

Now as for the Lexus performace division with the whole F line models the GS-F is not out and the LF-A is not out yet so I in my point of view I see no performance line. As for the IS-F sure its a fast car I never said it wouldn't be.

The way you're thinking is that if one overheats they will all overheat. My friend has a shop and they deal with Lexus all the time. There are some bad apples and some good apples. Some IS can be bad as well does that mean their all bad? heck no! so you need to get your thinking straight and not judge too quick based on one news report of one being faulty. Because we all know if there was one bad IS-F on the road that had problems you would have nothing to say.

You says you owns both the S-Class and Lexus LS do you have any proof? I was only curious because many member up here say they own this and that. I just want to make your a legitate that is all. And please don't feel offended because I ask you for proof.

Proof for what? that I own an LS and an S? haha wow what are we in high school? I don't need to prove anything to you or anybody here. I know what I got and where I stand. You just need to test drive some cars if you can afford them and buy the one you like the most. Lexus does not always mean the best and nor does Mercedes. BUT to say that Lexus is superior to all that's a bold and absolute false statement.

As for the MAGICAL FEEL. The 3 series does have superb handling and all the people who have owned one can agree with me. That's why they have been the benchmark for this segment for a long time. Now that doesn't mean there are other cars nowadays that is very close in that category to match the 3 series. Cars are getting very advanced and technology is really helping other brands boost up their credibility in the handling department.

My advice to you is if you can go drive all these cars and in your head take off all the brands and badging and drive the car for what it is and see what type of response it gives you. If you like it buy it if not don't. If an IS-F had a Hyundai badge on it would you still say it's better than a 3 series? I think probably not. So go see for yourself and don't believe what anyone says on newspapers, magazines, websites, or on TV.

I don't know what is superb handling to you. It is obviously different from what MOST people think is good handling.

Keep in mind that they are stock parts and not after market springs you would have on your rice rocket and even then it doesn't mean the handling is any better with after markets.

I've driven the previous generation 3 series and the new one and in my opinion they are very satisfactory. You think the M6 handling is bad? I don't think so.
