1962 Ferrari 330 Testa Rossa Bring 9-plus Million at Auction

What could be the Ferrari sale of the decade concluded in Maranello, Italy, last night at Ferrari headquarters. RM Auctions' Leggenda e Passion auction resulted in the sale of all but one of the 33 cars on offer. Many cars sold well into six figures, but the top dollar went to what was likely the most anticipated car of the sale, the Le Mans-winning 1962 Ferrari 330 TRI/LM Testa Rossa Spyder (pictured).

At a hammer price of $9,257,526, the 330 Testa Rossa brought almost $3 million more than when last sold at RM's Monterey auction in 2002 at $6.5 million. That's almost a 50% return on capital for the seller in just five years and a good idea of where the market is going for top-flight cars. I'm sure the venue had a lot to do with the prices obtained. RM is a great auction house but how can you resist when you are surrounded by such greatness in Maranello. I just hope that every bloke that has a prancing horse in his garage doesn't think that it's suddenly worth more. We've seen run ups on Ferrari prices in the past, especially when Enzo passed away only to return to normal a few years later.
