I have tried this car with the 1,4 tsi 170hk engine last summer for 4days and all I can say is I really loved this engine.
It´s a beauty!

My average fuel consumption was 7,1 liter/100km and I wasn't going slowly.

I heard it was jerky and whiny, and also it is expensive. Only like 1000 quid less than the GTi, but it is quite quick, and it is a very good technology that I believe can be implemented in many cars, but I just think it isn't quite right at the moment.
