Should Other States Follow? Texas Bans Speed Cameras and Warns of Red Light Cameras
Finally, someone's fighting back against the fleecing of the general populace. Famous for liking things big, Texas lawmakers have laid the smackdown on red light and speed cameras in a large manner. HB.922 states "A municipality may not implement or operate an automated traffic control system with respect to a highway under its jurisdiction," which means that cameras, automated radar or laser, or anything else designed to snag an image of a car, driver, or license plate and record its speed is now forbidden. The even larger racket of red-light cameras have had the brakes applied by HB.1052, which requires giving motorists notice of the devices at least 100 feet out.

They just rolled out red light cameras in Balcones Heights (Here in San Antonio). Other places like Alamo Heights were waiting to see how things went... looks like this will kill those ideas really quick. It's times like this I'm glad to be a Texan.

On a side note. DFW, Austin, Houston, San Antonio.... well, looks like TX is very well represented on this site.

That is great, i hope this trend follows in many other states. In NY, they are considering putting more on the roads which is BS. Down with the Cameras!

The only good camera is a broken one. There is one bit of good news though. Some jurisdictions won't take away any points for tickets mailed to the registered owner as the camera cannot make a positive ID on the driver.

If the law needs to be changed, change the law. Otherwise it should be enforced. If that means money for municipalities until people are smart enough to use the left or left/center pedal(s) more and the right one less.

This is great news....Go Texas. Sailor, not sure where you are from, but the camera's are a complete money grab by local governments/municipalities in the U.S. It has nothing to do with safety, other than the lip service that politicians always throw out.

Hell, if camera's are such a good thing, why don't we just put them in everyone's homes, as well. Might stop domestic violence, child abuse, rape, murder, etc, etc.

This is just a feel good, money grabbing measure so the authorities can sit on their a$$, eat donuts, and collect more money.

GOD BLESS TEXAS.

Enough is enough in this nazi-state we live in.

You drink (under 21) you get screwed.

Speed Cameras?!?!? what communist shit is this?!?!?

GOOD JOB TEXAS. Let's hope michigan follows suit. We have almost no cameras...lets keep it that way.

Keep America free. Quit protecting people from themselves.

I agree 1000% in New york they're trying to make the EZ-passes regulate speed they calculate the avg speed between 2 points so if you get to to 2 ez-pass points too quick and they send you a ticket for your avg speed talk about BIG BROTHER.. im all for the envroment but until hybrids do 0-60 in less than 6 let me burn some gas and have fun
