More info on the 2011 BMW 6-Series

There is no doubt that the current BMW 6-Series has earned itself much deserved respect with average of 20,000 units per year. Well now for 2011, AutoBild is reporting that the BMW 6-Series will get bigger, sportier and sexier.

BMW will add 80 millimeters to the wheelbase of the next generation 6-series and will shorten the front overhang by 40 millimeters. The roof line will be lowered by 10 millimeters giving the car a more stretched yet sportier feel.

The inside of the next generation 6-Series will get a new center console with the new joystick gear selector that you see in the 2006 BMW X5, along with extra features like heated head rests.

Expect to see three engine levels that produce 306, 408 and (M6) 507 horsepower. Of course you get more manual settings to confuse you like active cruise control with brake interference, VDC (adjustable feathers/springs and absorber), DPC (transverse moment distribution at the rear axle), TLC (trace retaining assistant), DKG (double clutch transmission).

Sources tell AutoBild that BMW will start the 6-Series cabrio production six months before the Coupe in January 2011. Why? Well, one the BMW 6-Series cabrio is more popular than the coupe and because BMW would like the spring business.

Thats a bad photo shop but I have faith in BMW to get the design right.
The current model does look good but its divided with people either liking it or not at all.

Considering both BMW & Lexus are global brands, I'm only hearing of lexus hybrids being sold in North America & now in UK...what about the rest of their markets?

At least the regenerative braking system will be available for BMW product range all over the world so the hybrid is still over-hyped and a marketing tool for lexus in US.

Lexus SC against the 6 series or even SL, S5 and NSX...etc THATS A JOKE!
Theres nothing sporty about the SC430, so its the SC whose got to get its game up...a lot!

Sure LF-A is coming out too but again Lexus isn't known for performance cars and IS-F not released to public just yet...so its them trying to prove to the world that they can build a sports car of any kind.

uh, those ARE different headlights, the current 6-series lights look nothing like those. Those look like the Fisker headlights.

That's a horrible photoshop that looks like it could've been a "first look" at the CURRENT 6 Series, from about ten years ago.

The current 6 is elegant and timeless, so I hope they don't ruin it.

As long as the new one does not have the “Bangle Butt” and that’s fine! The 3-er coupe now looks pretty good without all those ‘paradigm shit…err…shift”, “Flame boiled surfaces” and gratuitous graphics gimmicky crap! Good job from Von Hooodoooeeee or whatever of Bimmer's studio at Thousand Oak, CA!

no offence, we are not even midway through 2007 yet, whats with the 2011 stuff.

I also highly doubt the engine specs 306hp, 408 n 507hp will be the case. (will definately have the middle grade engines but the top of the range remains at 507?) We already have 507 in 2007. 2001 we had 400hp in the M5. I don't think its going to stay the same in 4+ years time... unless BMW does not plan to have any engine improvements till the next decade.

I'm surprised they want to make the 6 bigger than it already is; it’s almost the same size as a 750i. True it could use extra room in the rear seats but the 3er coupe accomplishes that with being considerably smaller.

Also I hope they don’t soften up the rear design as much as they did with the 3er coupe, I’d definitely modify the current trunk design to not look so bulky from certain angles (I almost wish I could pen it myself) but all the while keeping it’s aggressive look.
