I don't think so. Everyone said the same thing about the previous one. Some of us can appreciate organic and simplistic design language without busybody curves and angles everywhere for no reason...

True, but Porche is Porche, as Infinity is still trying to figure out who they really are. So comparing the 2 is now where to be found.

Unfortunately they ccarried this positive 'evolution' characteristic to the M model. That went from an ugly car to a less ugly car from 2004 to 2006. Revolution, in that case, would have been very welcomed.
I would say that both evolution and revolution have their correct uses. I believe Infiniti, in the case of the G35/37, made the right choice to allow its design to evolve. Unfortunately for the M model, they made that same choice which I don't think treated it nearly as nicely as it did the G.

How far did they need to push it? The car was already a great design that was arguably hard to improve on. The G sedan has been out for 7 months now, and the exact same type of changes over the previous sedan are also on the coupe. Why is all of this some big surprise to people? Also, everybody I have talked to has said that you have to see the car in person to really see how improved it is. Even seeing these pictures of the car side by side has turned people around to see that the new one does look good.

I like your first point, how can they improve on such great design, that hasnt got old yet..Sometimes I wonder the same for Mercedes CLS, how on earth could they possibly improve on that? Subtle changes might work in the companies favor when it already has a great design, main thing is not to drag it as long as Porsche and end up with cars that are to the unexperienced eye, identical..

Actually, with Mercedes, they've practically had to reinvent their style (calm down, and listen to what I mean)...

Their entire lineup in the late 90's and into this decade used the 4 round or eliptical-connected headlights, instantly recognized as Benz. I remember thinking, how can they evolve this? Same goes for Jaguar. Look at the new CL. It looks NOTHING like the previous Generation. Still recognizable as a Benz, but it's a totally different design. It had to evolve to avoid looking antiquated. The G's design language is still young.

One more example: the 3 series. In the early 90's thru 2005, it basically evolved between generations. It wasnt until Bangle's radical redesign in 06 that it really got a "newer" look.

And the M HAD to be redone, the 1st Gen M45 was a mistake, the current M looks great.

They overdid it. Too many curves, imo. Although its growing onto me really fast now. Anyone know if these are the new standard wheels?

Yes on the wheels. I've seen them on other pictures and I think somewhere the brochure is online.

When I first saw the new design I was also kind of ho-hum about it. But I'm liking it more and more.

Infiniti really should have more color choices though. They have way too many silvers... they should take a hint from the Germans on color choices.

No, playing it safe means sticking with what works. The new one looks like an Eclipse. The old one looks better. I'm sure the performance will blow away all aspects of the old one but come on, the old one was futuristic and agressive. This new one looks too "squishy." Just my take though, yell at me if you want...

I'm starting to really like the G37. I don't think Infiniti played it "too" safe- it's an evolutionary design, as it should be, like the 911 and TT. I didn't realize it before, but the front end is a massive improvement; I still like the rear of the old one better, though, because that chrome lip is tacky. I hope they don't put it on all of their other models, because so far it has taken up residence on both of the new G's.

Hello Porsche - I can hardly tell a 911 apart anymore by model year. This should also make all the people that are driving older models feel better knowing the new one is so close in design that people will stil think their car is new

I think that versus the original concept, it is a major let down.
The concept was beautiful, this one is nice but blend next to it.

this is more like a FACELIFT than a new model. A lot of things remained untouched.

It really looks like they just took the previous model and melted it in a microwave.

I prefer some of the chiseled design cues from the previous G-car, in particular the front and rear fascias.

I concur.

I think the G37 if it resembled concept it would've just rocked completely, but with the actual G37 I think Infiniti will need a makeover if it really needs to sit on top without any competition.

Now with this said, I don't mean the G37 won't succeed, but it will make buyers to think about going for it or not. The concept had no 2nd thoughts at all, it screamed, I'm the king! and it really is.

Thinking about why Infiniti made the G37 look like this and not the concept, maybe was related for it not to compete with its up coming GTR, so the GTR would make that scream and not the G37??

The G37 looks like a G35 that was stepped on by Godzilla.

Interestingly enough I recall the upcoming Z-replacement appeared a bit too safe with its overall look as well. That an some article mentioning it will be a bit softer than current and past 350Z cars.

Why need a radical change when the old one was good enough?

The only thing I hate about both is the rear... It looks like a slide for kids and makes the body look 'wrong' if thats the correct word.
