WARNING: Your Cell Phone May Disable Your Nissan

Nissan North America has a warning for customers: placing your electronic key too close to your cellphone could leave you stranded.

The automaker is asking customers driving new models of two of its flagship sedans to keep their car keys and cellphones at least an inch apart to avoid disabling the "intelligent keys."

Cellphones kept near Nissan's I-Keys -- wireless devices designed to allow drivers to enter and start their cars at the push of a button -- can erase the electronic code on the keys, rendering them unable to unlock or start the cars.

Well this obviously isn't a problem for other car manufacturers (as far as I know, anyway), shouldn't Nissan do something different to make this not a problem?

This is definitely a safety issue that needs to be addressed immediately. I know lots of women keep their keys and phone in little tiny purses and we don't want them (or anyone else that we love) lacking access to their vehicle especially in the case of an emergency.

I own a 2006 Infiniti G35 Sports sedan with the premium and sports option. I keep my intelligent key fob in my pocket and place my mobile phone in the center console.
I have a Bluetooth earpiece as well as voice activated dialing so I do not need to see my phone when making or receiving calls. The intelligent key fob also contains a standard key that can be used to unlock that car and start the engine as well, so if you have the intelligent key you are carrying two keys.
Mobile phone interference may be a problem with other car manufacturers that offer versions of an intelligent key, the findings may not have been made public.

LOL...reminds me of the Mercedes ML problems w/ too many keys. The vehicle would just shut off..they told everyone not to use as many keys.
