US auto sales will bounce back, Big 3 may not

Business goes up and down, but the real question is will they regain their number #1 spot back?

Keep an eye on GM -- they are coming back big-time with great products.

All the Big3 seem to be coming back, GM moreso than Chrysler and Ford though. Ford has a good product offering and its getting better. I also very much like Chrysler's products, although they need to address some cheap things on their cars. Cheap being plastic hubcaps on the 300/Charger/Magnum as well as non-LED taillights on those same cars.

GM is heading in the right direction. The only thing GM needs to address is offering in-dash navigation and LED taillights on more vehicles (in my opinion). Aside from that, GM is doing great.

Ford and Chrysler need to be more compact if they are to survive let alone compete. To many confusing car lines and names scale them back and make the remaining models the best they can possibly be is the key. Chrysler has a foot in the right direction, with the closing now of many dealers that either were non productive or down right crooks. Gm also has a real chance to make a nice return to the 21st century with solid products and also eliminating some models.
They must show consumer confidence by installing a 48 month 50warranty on all models and get rid of the 36 month plan.
In the future all franchised dealers must have a dealer program in which sales consultants actually learn how to sell a car this is the problem for them though just to many greedy dealers and in the end the family and friends don't return thus the visous cycle starts all over again, and not i swhat will spell doom for Chrysler for sure in the future if they don't get a handle?

I really don't see myself buying any Big3 products. No matter how cheap they are.

See you just hit the nail on the head. You mentioned the word "cheap". This has been part of the big 3 problem for a long time and in part what's gotten them into trouble. For the last 25 yrs they have sold on heavily discounted high volume products. You know they were not as good but they were cheaper then their foreign competition. It is clear that they are trying to turn this now around. However until the health car costs issue can be solved the big three will never be able to produce a competative small car. Foreign car makers have a clear financial advantage in the costs to produce a car. So until either unions accept lower health care coverage or the US government requires foreign car makers to offer the same cost and care to their US employees or pays an equlization tax on their vehicles the big three will continue to suffer.

The big three must make better quality vehicles to compete with the foreign market! Saturn's small new vehicle looks awesome! Other than that they all suck! I would pay more for a better quality vehicle if the big three had one!
Look at the numbers for a small car, fuel economy, HP, and safety! Honda civic wins hands down, no American car comes close unfortunatly.Saturn may be waking up? We will have to see all the crash test results , fuel economy, reliability and HP before we praise it.
