The design is way too overexagerated. The only thing it's missing is a Red LED strip in the front, and a William Daniels voicebox.

As the new Supra will be lighter than the IS,The modified 3.5 V6 (330BHP) of Lexus in it would result in a 0-60 time of close to 4 seconds.

So don't worry.New Supra as always will be the king in it's class.

1. 270hp 3.5L AWD Corolla/Matrix (supercharged to 320hp)
2. 330hp 3.5L v6 supra successor
3. 400hp 3.5L v6 FT-HS green hybrid supercar
4. 430~450hp 5.0L v8 IS-F
5. 550+hp 5.0L v10 LF-A supercar
6. 500hp 5.0L v8 LF-A hybrid supercar

Whats the common thread in your story . That NONE of the cars u mentioned EXIST...

K ..I am sure the IS-F will make it .but for how long is the story of the Supra coming back been around ... Infact isnt your name "supraneverback" paying homage to the fact that the Toyota bosses in Japan gave up on peformance..
I mean the last Celica and MR2 were basrely adequate efforts.

Especially the MR2 .. which had the sweetest mid engine chasis of all cars in its range ( something that inspired the Boxster) but was limited to a crappy 140hp engine. The lousy wanker who calls him an engineer on that project said they didnt want to go with the 2ZZ engine ( 180 HP in the US spec Celica) because of its VVT-i abruptness. Try telling that to the guys from Lotus who used it to massage 190 Hp out of it with a lower VVT-i crossover threshold for the Elise.

The grey dull salary plonkers who act as performance / product designers in Toyota can take they best effort of their engineers and make a hash out of it.
I never shall forget the dude who designed the new IS ... he spent 4 fucking hours talking about his being an audiophile as opposed to his love for driving .. Says pretty much that the IS series is best served as the base for Mark Levinson audio system ...
Dont get me wrong , I realy admire Toyota?Lexus and like their products/manufacturing prowess but asking them to get performace right is like asking for barbeque sauce on your sashimi..( The old supra/ original MR2 is their weird twists of nature )

Frankly they should manufacture /assemble all the components/cars etc.. but offshore all the chasis/engine/ECU design choices to some outside agency .. (Lotus ?)

One problem with this I see, the 400hp won't compete with the GTR 480hps now.

I hope the final version of the new Supra has more than 330 hp for the 3.5L v6. I think it would much better if it has 350 hp instead. And for the hybrid version how about 420hp?

Designer1, what you says is very true, Toyota need to gave the new Supra at least 480hp to hang with the GTR.

Supra/FT-HS will be under $40k.

The problem with these hybrids is that they're almost always are coupled to a silly CVT transmission. That KILLS the driving experience because you have no sense in changing gears.

Only Audi's Multitronic - sort of - simulates a better road feel but still it is mostly meant for comfort and lazy driving, not for a sportscar.

I'm no engineer but is it possible to couple a hybrid car with a manual transmission?

In a word, no.

I think the impracticalities are endless ie moving off. Rev the engine, but wait, no engine on...engine suddenly turns on you jolt forward due to extra power.

You Euros and your silly boy-racer manuals. Get over it already. Is there some sort of extra magic you release when being jerked forwards and backwards every time your BMW shifts?

Will - I like to be able to change gear when I want, how I want, and how fast I want.
I also like being able to accelerate without kickdown, sometimes I don't want it, I just want to ride on the torque. And auto gearboxes sap power and reduce mpg.

Rupert, have you driven some of the good autos lately. They neither sap power nor decrease mpg. Many high end sports cars are foregoing manuals altogether. BMW was forced to put a manual in the M5 despite knowing that the auto is better, because stick fans insisted on it.

The manual M5 is America only, and it is not good.
SMG is NOT an automatic, it is a clutch-pedal-less manual.
I would have an auto in some cars (luxury cars, 5 series size +), but in most, and in my car, a manual is best.

I really liked this concept. If they can somehow work their way around the CVT and call it the Toyota Supra, it's definitely a winner.

I hope the non-hybrid Supra is around $30K, because if it is, I want one.

I'm sure the production version of the Supra will be toned down some.0-60 in 4 seconds with 330HP?. The car would have to weigh in under 3000 LBS.I seriously doubt this. I predict 3200-3300 LBS and 0-60 in the high 4's.
