BMW launches M version X5

BMW has launched a new M sport package for its X5, the first time the performance kit has been offered on the SUV model. The kit includes both visual upgrades to the interior and body, as well as performance tuning of its chassis. The exterior features new color-coded bumpers with integrated fog lights, extended wheel arches housing unique 19in wheels or an optional 20in set, plus new side moldings.

Inside, the SUV gets full leather accessories with ‘M’ labeling, sports seats, polished aluminum trim and an M steering wheel. Handling has been enhanced thanks to modifications to the adaptive drive and active steering systems, and individual selection of specific tires that differ between the front and rear axles.

M=Marketing, apparently.

BMW always said they would not offer an M SUV, as SUVs cannot uphold the characteristics of an M vehicle. So much for that. Is nothing sacred?

Wow you are smart..... its the X5 4.8is replacement..... smarty. Just like the M package on the X3. Now keep driving your toyota, maybe they would have some mercy on you and offer you a better car.

Who cares about an M package on an X5. I mean c'mon people. Talk about wasting money. There's no way you're gonna drive this thing like areal BMW car so why throw your money away on a weak appearance package w/ some weak tuning. If you signed up on one, I've got some swamp land I'd like to sell ya.

This is great news, if you are hating on this, you have no idea what you're talking about and should remove yourself from this site. It's a package, like an option, not a new M vehicle...

Doesn't Porsche make a turbo Cayenne too. This is stupid, make cars go offroad and trucks that you can autocross. What happen to the pure essence of driving?

Was the X5 with the 4.6 or 4.8 labeled as having an "M" package though?

Nope. It just had the "iS" badging. Extra horsepower that's all. In BMW petrol models you have "i", "e" ans "si". The last 2 indicate more horses.

It's just an M-sport package, nothing special here. Audi has S-line and Mercedes has AMG so BMW couldn't lag behind.

With this package, it's easily the best handling SUV out there.

Im quickly getting tired of the new X5. Looks too much like the old version. The "M" package is an attempot to compete with the AMG packages featured for non AM Mercedes cars. Lets see them make a real X5M to compete with the ML63 AMG and Cayenne Turbo.

I agree with you on the aging thing... I don't know what it is, maybe it's because of all the shades of grey I see them in, but the X5s are already looking dated. Too timid with the redesign.

THIS IS NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR THE 2006 4.8is....IT IS SIMPLY A BODYKIT.
I don't know what you guys are talking about.

Wheels should have been 21"!
Just look at a Q7 with the 21" S-line package....now that's gorgeous!

i really don't like that mercedes and bmw offer amg and m 'packages' on some of their cars. it denigrates the amg and m brands. any car bearing one of those marques should be the real deal. period.
