Will The Car Makers Pull Out Of F1?

If Formula One does not act, car manufacturers could quit and the very existence of motor sport could be under threat. That is the belief of FIA president Max Mosley, who in an interview with the newspaper Welt am Sonntag justified his tough stance on modernising the rules for the future.

Talks with the carmakers have already begun about revolutionising the rulebook for 2011, with things like biofuel-powered V6 engines on the table. The last carmaker to pull out of F1 was Ford at the end of 2004, but Mosley insisted: “We must continue to cut the costs. My experience is that if one manufacturer decides it has become too expensive, another one could also say goodbye very quickly. We have to remember that the people sitting on these companies’ executive boards are not necessarily F1 fans.

It's unbelivable how much damage Max and Co. have done so as to "cut costs", "improve safety" and "put the driver back".

The result, the lack of mecanical grip = boredom and super expensive winglets aerodynamics_&_chassi = hierachisation increased to the max historical values.

I totally agree with this. Max and Co. had ruined F1 big time. Current F1 series could be the most technologically advanced of all, but it is also the most boring of all time.

If I were one of the manufacturers, I would definitely pull out, and concentrate the effort and resources on making better passenger cars. Look at how much money and effort Toyota had poured into its F1 team? What did Toyota get in return?? 0% result, 100% embarrassment.

That' s really good for Toyota from every aspect.
They have so much money that they could buy the whole F1. But they prefer to win in F1 under "procedural kerbs".

You call it failure, they call it "vaccination".

Definitely not an advertising game for Toyota.

Can anyone tell me if Max, Bernie & co are serious about reducing F1 costs? In the 80s a $70 million dollar /year budget for a team was huge and there were talks about reducing costs. Then came the 90s and top teams were shelling out just over $100 Mill a year. Now big spenders are in the $200Million - 300 Mill range. Why are more races being added to the schedule which increases equipment costs, testing and other related costs? Why are some of the newer races at far flung areas of the globe that increase travel and logistics costs for the huge teams that support the drivers? The answer is simple..Bernie goes where the dollars are period! If they really wanted to cut costs, get one engine supplier, cut the number of races down, and make other changes that limit development to cars, but then we'll probably end up with boring NASCAR-like races, and I don't want that. Frankly, F1 is for big boys with dough, and I doubt if the playing field will ever favor non-factory teams with smaller pockets so lets keep it that way and cut out the biofuels eye service and other related bs!!! I've never seen an f1 expense sheet, but I have a hunch that fuel cost is a rounding error on their budgets..

Whoo! It is Drama boyz that should get a reality check. F1 story is a win story for Toyota.
Toyota spends too little in F1 for their targets they ve set.
Definitely a scandal for your lovely companies.
I advise you should keep your worry-sensitive feelings about other F1 teams...
