Totally agree! When I first looked at the headline, I thought: Who ISN'T toppling Fords sales these days...

The numbers are what they are. Toyota practically invented modern day lean manufacturing, which not only increased profits, but quality. Who really cares that Ford lost more market share? I've said it before and I'll say it again, Ford and of course GM had their chance to turn things around as far back as 1978 and they chose not too. Fast forward to 2007 and Ford is about to lose it's #2 spot to another American manufacturer (Toyota), using American workers. Ford and GM still make me sick when they report that they just need to make cars that appeal to Americans and they do not have those types of vehicles in their line-ups. The part that bugs me about that statement is they still do not get it! It is not if the cars are appealing, but whether they will they stop building crappy, unrefined cars and work their asses off like Toyota did to build a reputation of quality and better than average service? Ford has already answered that question and their answer is, "NO"!

Toyota is NOT focused on toppling anyone, which is what has brought them success. A high quality product and customer satisfaction: a simple formula that Toyota has mastered through many means.

bulldogz: I'm buying a car for my wife in the spring of 2008 and I have picked the 2008 Cadillac CTS over the Lexus IS350. Both have RWD with LSD availability but GM has more dealers and offers better value (I hate spending money).

If American car companies actually gave a crap about their American customers, they'd be in better position. Just look at their overseas lineups (especially Australia) and we get crap cars, while they get the sexy stuff. Suffice it to say, Ford is actually quite nice in Australia (and that's saying a lot from me cause I hate Ford vehicles with a passion and think they are worthless cheap pieces of crap). Just look at Ford Australia, Pontiac/Holden, etc. Excellent cars. In fact, the Pontiac GTO would have sold BETTER had they simply not called it a GTO. That name alone is something not to be tampered with and unfortunately Pontiac was hoping the name would boost sales, but true fans of that car want a car that represents the heritage (not necessarily a retro look, but at least something that's mean looking) and that car was too "tame". Great car, but not a GTO. Looks like Ford though has been caught testing some Australia cars over here lately.

Sadly, they are only doing this cause they are getting their asses handed to them by companies like Toyota and they should have given us better cars to begin with instead of treating us like the ugly stepchildren.

The ford's and GM's that come from australia are not reliable. We get them here in the M.E and it would be an accomplishment if the car lasts more than 3 years without making you go mad and spend loads of money on fixing it.
