Tuner Special: AC Schnitzer S3 Diesel

The new retractable hardtop is the latest in a long line of Schnitzer-tuned Bimmers. A performance pack is being developed for BMW's superb twin-turbo 3.0-liter six. In the meantime, Schnitzer provides modifications for the 3.0-liter turbodiesel, boosting output from 231 to 265 horsepower.

The Schnitzer body kit for the convertible bundles a front skirt, side skirts and a rear apron. Customers can order 20-inch Schnitzer racing rims, with 245/30R20 tires in front and 295/25R20s in the rear. Nineteen-inch wheels and tires also are available.

Ironically, doesn't the tuner kit drop fuel efficiency and significantly increase pollutants? So you are defeating the purpose of buying a diesel to make it more like a gasoline car - why not just get the 335 for more power, less money and same fuel costs??

I'll take any diesel -- always wanted one and never had one. Did overhaul diesel engines as a summer student once upon a long time ago.
