RWD Pontiac G6 due in 2010, followed by new BLS and Impala

Despite concerns over the survivability of development plans for a new range of rear-drive models from General Motors, the midsized Alpha project is reported to be well underway with the first model due by the end of the decade. Alpha is the name of GM’s midsized RWD platform, a global architecture that will spawn several new cars across North America and Europe. According to GM’s suppliers, Alpha shares much in common with the Kappa platform on which cars like the Pontiac Solstice are based.

The first model to be released based on Alpha running gear will be a RWD Pontiac G6 due by late 2010. This will be followed in 2011 by a replacement for the FWD Cadillac BLS sedan and wagon currently sold in Europe. The next-gen BLS is also expected to be sold in the US for the first time, with pricing starting around the high $20,000 mark.

The next-generation BLS coming to America? What would that car compete with? I guess the Toyota Camry/Honda Accord, but this is supposed to be a luxury brand. Maybe the Acura TSX?

im sure the bls would compete with the lower end or compact luxury sedans. the current one competes techinically competes with the same cars a cts does. cadillac wouldnt compete with chevrolet for a camry fighter.....that doesnt make sense, and it the tsx for gm would be like them badging an open vectra a cadillac and saying its a luxury car much like a honda did with the accord (tsx) put no complaints there, guess because its a honda...lol

I really don't think it would compete with the Camry. Toyota is not in the same class. It would basically be a cheaper Caddy for those who can't afford the CTS but want a luxury car. Kinda like what Audi, Mercedes & BMW are doing by producing smaller and less expensive cars. Though the BLS would probably be smaller than the CTS it will not be as small as say a 1-series. I'd love to see how GM will market this.

Now is a better time that ever for Pontiac start pulling legendary names from its history for its new models. I'm definitely looking forward to the rear- drive G6 replacement.
