That article brought something up - do all cars that go to the US have to be crash tested? They don't in Europe, nobody has ever tested an S class or A8...

Rackspace CEO Graham Weston drives a black (or blue) Boxster S with a license plate of "RACK MAN" on it. I wish I had taken a picture of it, but he has his own parking spot right below the giant Rackspace sign at the corporate headquarters.

There is no world standard for crashworthiness accepted by every country. The 959 was modified enough that the US considered it a new car and so it needed to be crash tested again. I remember back in I believe it was '89 that Bill Gate's car was held at the port and they would not let it in. At the time, Bill was driving a Lexus as his daily driver.

The 959 is legal in the US. Several years back, Canepa Design, company based out of Santa Cruz, CA started importing the cars and making them legal in the states. When I was in college there, I saw them driven on the streets there very often.

the most rich people in the world may not necessarily drive the most expensive cars. its not cheap but smart. why draw more attention to themselves. most are modest living. it is the celebs that give us the notion that rich people are all flashy.

That's why some drive at most just a Mercedes or BMW instead of going even more luxury like a Maybach/Bentley/Rolls.

For the ultra wealth I think that's quite modest.

true.

the sociologists who wrote "The Millionaire Next Door" said the MOST POPULAR vehicle amongst the rich, are plebian ford f-150s.

these guys don't get rich by wasting their $$$$.

they also noted that by far, the majority of cars like BMWs are bought by just middle class folk, wanting to APPEAR upper middle class and upper class.

that happens too, of course.

but many buy JUST for the image. how many do you know, are capable of REALLY driving a sports car or sport sedan as they were MEANT to be driven?
