2008 VW Tiguan: Official Photos & Press Release
Apart from the obvious, meaning that the Tiguan’s appearance (in and out) is severely toned down compared to the 2006 L.A. Show concept, VW’s press release was surprisingly detailed for a prototype version that’ll be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Show in September with sales commencing in February 2008. Beginning with the running gear, the Golf based Tiguan will be offered solely with turbocharged engines: the TSIs (gasoline) delivering 150, 170 and 200 Hp and the TDIs (diesel) developing 140 and 170 Hp.

Equipped with the same 4WD system (4Motion) that we find in various VW models, the Tiguan will be offered in two body variants differing primarily in their front ends: The “Trend & Fun” and “Sport & Style” versions are designed for a maximum entry angle of 18 degrees in front while the “Track & Field” Tiguan is tuned for offroad duty for max entry angles of up to 28 degrees with its front end. However, undoubtedly, the highlight of the Tiguan is the standard Offroad Mode system in the “Track & Field” version that activates a bunch of assistance systems like the hill descent control and electronic differential locks by the touch of a switch -think of it as a simplified version of Land Rover’s lauded Terrain Response System.

It will be able to self park like the Lexus LS. I told you VW will have this technology soon. (well it's already out in the European Touran) But the 20,000 or so Tiguan will have it also. Great stuff.

Way before that self-parking rubbish, VW already had cars that totally drove themselves.

I hate self-park. I don't care if it's on a Lexus or a VW.

Otherwise, what are these pictures? Not VW's. They all have camouflage on them. And the interior shot is just the inside of a Golf Plus.

Nope they are of the Tiguan. Under disguise, but you can see that it is true to the awesome concept. The interior is of the Tiguan as you can see by the new touch screen Nav.

C'mon S4cab,

You've been on Autospies long enough to know that manufacturers do sometimes publish official pictures of their cars still lightly camo'ed, (ie. BMW with it's new Mini).

Notice the high quality of the images? And of course the interior is the Tiguan, why would it be anything else?

Yes, chewy, I know the car IS the Tiguan, but it doesn't look like a VW press release.

If that's really the interior, I'm disappointed. It looks drab and old, and it's a carbon copy of the Golf Plus on the dash. Nowhere near as nice as the Passat, which has already been on the market for two years.

And Matthew, no, I've never seen a press release where the car is still camo'ed.

I know, VW always have weird names, for ex: Eos and Touareg.

Touareg is a tribe, Scirocco, and Passat are desert winds, Eos was the Greek goddess of the Dawn, Phaeton is a name for a vintage style of car (limousine style) and also the Son of the Greek God of the Sun, Jetta comes from Jet Stream, Vento (another name for Jetta) is italian for wind, Bora (another Jetta name) is another wind, and Polo and Golf are obvious.
Lupo is Latin for wolf, and it was replaced by the Fox.
The Tiguan though, is a blend between Tiger and Iguana.

"the Golf based Tiguan will be offered solely with turbocharged engines: the TSIs (gasoline) delivering 150, 170 and 200 Hp and the TDIs (diesel) developing 140 and 170 Hp."
Only turbos? Interesting....

Well thank you.
I shall be sure to tell my parents that a strange man on the internet likes me.

But seriously thank you, it's nice of you to say so. Blissfully cynical? lol.
And I am old enough to do many things, like drive and in my country, drink :D

i still laugh at people that will buy a car because it can self park. Are you that bad of a driver?

Actually, if you ARE that bad of a driver (parking), then yes, please get one of these vehicles and save my nice vehicles from getting dents, scratches and dings when you horribly park your car.

They say you can see the real Tiguan first on the Tiguan Base: www.tiguan.com
