C-Class next to get AMG’s huge V8

Massively powerful Mercedes C63 AMG could blow BMW M3 and Audi RS4 away.


While we’ve all been eagerly anticipating the impending scrap between BMW’s new M3 and the Audi RS4, the up-coming Mercedes C63 AMG has rather slipped under the radar. It will be unveiled at the Frankfurt show in September, and with a 6.2-litre V8 producing around 475bhp it should blow the doors off its German rivals.

AMG is determined that the C63 won’t be just a sophisticated dragster. The standard C-class is a solid dynamic base and cars like the E63 and the Black Series SLK and CLK show AMG's ambitions for its super-Mercs. The C63 will feature significant changes to the front axle and steering system, to improve feel and response, and there will be the option of a ‘Performance Package’, which will include a multi-plate limited-slip differential.

The C63 will be an impressive little car. It may cost more but with it's new generation coming in and lots more refinement it will be a better buy than the outgoing model. I don't like the current one as it's very out dated. Same goes for the CLK. The next generation Merc's are emerging. They will grow on me I'm almost 100% sure of it.

Same here. The new generation of Mercs is just nothing short of brilliant (S, CL, C).

Superb build quality, top materials, extreme (almost sexy) engineering, brilliant ride, awesome engines and last but certainly not least a gorgeous design!

I congratulate MB for improving the quality of their products...in a few years, we'll see MB also doing much better in long-term reliability
My family has owned MBs for about twenty years and we were lucky we never got caught up in the reliability mess...thanks again MB

IS-F/RS4/C63 would be better comparison. Not IS-F vs M3 and the world like some of the cult members have claimed LOL.

M3 is a coupe. Some people still can't seem to distinguish the difference.

If this car turns out to perform wonderfully in the handling department like the E63 AMG, then I think AMG has a good chance of attracting some more handling enthusiasts. The new C-Class looks dynamically wonderful, especially in the sport trim.

An E63 AMG handles great, I know because I driven one, but it's not the same as the M5. But everybody knows AMGs are Autobahn-stormers with huge power and comfort. M-division is much more puristic and focused. Audi does the same with S/RS. The slower S-models are high on comfort and speed but lack finesse in the handling department (yes, even the S5 is still not showing it's full potential as they engineered a understeering car, safe? yes, boring? yes). The RS-models are much more focused. They offer more luxury than M-division cars but the handling is still not the same. Although the RS4 is better than an E46 M3, it's certainly not faster or better to drive than a CSL. I'm really curious how the new RS6 will handle. Probably very very good. But it won't be an M5.

Alpina: luxury high-speed cruisers
AMG: see Alpina
S: a 1/2 RS
RS: luxury and superb handling

Lexus F cars: not sure where to put frankly.

agreed will
for actual manufacturers, BMW Ms have the best handling and #2 power. AMG usually dominates in power I believe but they make more of a compromise between sport and luxury. Audi is nice - good quality stuff but not the top
I'm extremely excited for the redesigned C-class...much better quality overall and I hear superior handling over the last gen

Great Car, but don't know how long it will be at the top of the hill when the new CTS-V debuts. Something tells me that the V will be a beast (oh yeah..600hp)

Well, of course, that's for a reason... as great as Merc is, and as much as I admire their cars, AMG isn't known for their handling. They're known for their outright power. Like the old C55, the new C63 AMG will probably be faster than a C4S, but it can't take an M3 or RS4 through a corner.

mercs are not meant to be bmws. bmws are known for thier handling. however their m's arn't comfortable. here where i live the c63 would be great. as most highways are straight lines. and when it gets twisty the mercs arn't bad. however they arn't designed to take corners like the bmw or audi. they are meant to be fast, luxurious, and handle decently. mercedes is known to make the best car that suits all needs. a road burner when need be. very supple when need be. and oh so comfortable. if u want a sports car get an slr.
