And LexusAdmirer doesn't know that Japanese cars are so cheap because the Japanese have for years been practicing an illegal trade practice in which they purchase massive amounts of American Dollars to keep their currency artificially weak and make their products cheaper in the US market.

Tell me, do the Europeans do this? The Euro is very competitive against the Dollar and hence their products are also more expensive. Simple economics my son!

And there are tons of Lexus which are also leased. Moron.

It's simple. They're more expensive than their Japanese rivals and some people who badly want a BMW or a Benz and don't want to spend all their money on one or invest in a car, so they lease the vehicle of their choice. Leasing is a good business and it's also quite common in the mainstream carmarket I believe, especially in Europe (Rupert, correct me if I am wrong).

Leasing is fairly common, many private leasers operate, and many people lease through their work to avoid some kind of tax...I know someone who has a leased SL55amg and Range Rover Supercharged. And he is loaded, he owns his own (large) company, and leasing avoids a company tax, I believe. But what is more common is having a company car, but then you have Co2 based company car tax...hence the massive popularity of diesel prestige cars, 318d, 520d, E220cdi etc.

It's all about Residual Values on leases. The higher the lease amount(apples to apples) depends on the residual rates which are often higher on Japanese cars.

Look at it this way, why be hooked for 5+ years in a car that you know it's gonna spend 25% of its time in the shop? Can you afford the car payment and the shop bill?

It would be interesting to see how those break down in terms of contract length. I would probably be tired of a 48 or 60 month lease after a while knowing that I'm not building any equity in the car.

I'm currently seven months into a 24 month lease on an Audi and I am counting the months till I can get into a Lexus IS350, but I'm not going to pay more just to get out faster. The car's not THAT bad. None of the cars on the list are terrible.

I own a C230 V6 and I don't see what's so sad about it? It suits my needs and the power is enjoyable. What's the problem?

What's sad about a 2.5 V6? (it is a 2.5 not 2.3)
Plenty powerful enough, 200hp or something, and 0-60 in the low 8 second range. Why would I need more power in a car like a C class? it's not a sports car, and I'm not a drag racer.
Although personally I wouldn't have it, I'd have the 200k which is just as quick but 5 mpg more economical, or the C280 which is quicker and as economical. Actually, I'd have the C220cdi, which is quicker than both the 200k and 230, and gets 15 more mpg than the 230.

I have to agree that Toyotaman is out of his mind. I lived in Germany for 5 years toward the end of and post WW2 after the Kriegsmarine saved me from the Soviet hordes. General Patton had the right idea to rearm the Germans and destroy communism once and for all. I do admit however that the current generation is now reaping the benefits of the fierce competition between the cold-war superpowers that took place after the war. Without that competition, we would not have had all the economic expansion and technological development that took place since that time.
