I'm trying to decide which Porsche I would rather have: Cayman S or C4S Cabriolet. I'd save $40K with the Cayman, and it might even be better-looking, but the 911 is... well, a 911.

No, when I'm under $100K I can pretty easily go for a new car. Over that mark, I'd consider a one or two-year-old model. You would have to get a LOADED, LOADED, LOADED Cayman S for it to be over six figures.

S4, I know Porsche is ridiculous with options but you live in the U.S. right? I've never tried optioning a Cayman S out but you can't actually get one to $100k Iin the U.S. can you? That's crazy if you can, isn't a decked out one around $70k?

Nope. I got mine to $85K last night, and that's not even fully loaded.

Here in Europe we have way more options to choose from. Americans also have more 'packages' for everything while here you order just as you like. Therefore your Porsche will always be very unique.

Anyway, here it's easy for a Cayman S to get over 110.000 euros. And that's with the normal Porsche Configurator, Porsche Exlusive not included.

where exactly is that 001? im always deathly afraid of buying used because i don't know if the previous owner drove it super hard or had suspension problems (wasn't my fault i didn't see the pothole that ended up being a huge crater!)

also, wondering if you still sell your book "Death of a Car Salesman" or if it's been updated, because the links i follow to purchase it are outdated and give me error messages.

Funny... I cut a piece of cardboard I found in my garage. My computer can't black that out, for some reason.

You can use any basic photo editing program...MS Paint for pc, Seashore for mac.

Yeah I've driven it, & it's beautiful, but at the moment (It's under major construction) it's also probably one of the most dangerous highways.

Anyways I feel for you living in Winnipeg, no offence but it's one of the last places I'd ever want to live. It hasn't been too hard adapting to Vancouver after West Palm but Winnipeg would be another story, winters their are way to extreme.

Wow. That's quite a jump upmarket!

Yeah, I live in MI. Been waiting for this car for a while. I like a lot of cars, but wouldn't buy most of them due to driving conditions here. Also, I'd rather not spend that kind of money on a car that I see everywhere. That kind of rules out Porsche, considering the GT3 is really not a MI car. BMW's all look the same to me. So do most Mercedes. Ferrari is too expensive, and the Gallardo is very nice, but I prefer the R8. Thought the Vanquish was beautiful, but thought the performance was way under par.

Depending on what the R8's are going for, I may drive it a bit and sell it.

The only other car I'd really consider is the new AMG Black Series or the E-Class. Black is a bit pricey and probably too hard to get. The E-class is, well, a great car for a great price, but I'm really looking for more of a sports car.

I don't like people who buy R8s and flip them. Stupid move.

Financially, I don't see why that would be a stupid move. The demand will be high and the supply low. I've lived without an R8 for 22 years, I could wait a few more and get it with all the options that I want, which aren't available now.

I sometimes regret I sold my M5 but I got a very good deal and I know that after the facelift it will lose alot of its value so I sold it.

the airport was awsome,free internet and big HDTV projection (i got to watch the UEFA semifinals! weeee!) i went there last yr from NYC to go to another flite to Myanmar. cars there as well are expensive. (ie: 95 corolla with 140k km goes for $15k US as well as a land cruiser (any model yr) going around $100k US. i'll attest the fact tht owning a car in Asia is expensive. anyways,i dont mind the hot weather there, singapores close to the equator.

Thanks. Took the 600 out tonight to pick up a movie. Got stopped by a couple of people in the parking lot. Old timers who appreciate its vintage. The Jag drives well. Only one problem about a 8 months ago...it stalled due too much pressure in the injectors. Nice homeless Vet helped me push it down the road where I could park it until the tow trunk came. The gentleman wouldn't take money...so I went home and got him some groceries and a robe.

I had a '71 300SEL-4.5 which i restored the air suspension on.
Its the biggest go-kart that i've ever driven!
But I'll eventually own a 600 some day.
My next office will have staff parking on the ground floor with a roll-up steel door behind each stall.
Behind each door I'll start stashing my dream cars.
Possibly rent them (at exhorbitant rates) to generate a tax write-off for the maintenance and insurance........

oh man i was wrong my VW gti was an 84

cool car the guy sold it to me for $500 bucks and i drove it from Utah to DC one summer. I had the oil changed at a quick lube and they forgot to add the oil.

I drove it from UTah over through Wyoming and when i got gass i checked the oil. "they forgot to add it and i drove 350 miles with no oil. I added 3 or 4 quarts (all it needed) and the car worked fine for another 60 k miles

Live in Cincinnati, OH and currently have a 2006 330i and 2005 X5 4.4i. Next vehicles will be either a 335i Coupe (what I want) or 535i sedan (what I'll probably get) to replace the 330i and a 535xiT to replace the X5. If I was rolling like S4 and some of the other folks on here my ride of choice would be an Aston Martin, and I don't care that it isn't the fastest or best handling car in the class. Previous vehicles include 2002 330Ci, 2004 VW Touareg, 2005 Mazda6s, 1992 325is, and (my favorite) a supercharged 1989 Mustang GT convertible that my wife now wears on her finger.

That's the thing- it doesn't work on my computer. My home PC is an iMac G5, which may be the root of the problem, but I love my Apple and wouldn't get rid of it for such an insigificant problem.

They are two totally different animals, though. If the X3 still was offered with the old 2.5i and 3.0i engines, we would have gotten that. The X3 with 260 hp almost seems overpowered. But both are great, but I like the X5 more.

It's 272 hp.

My bad, it seems America and Canada get 12 horsepower less.

I checked today, BOTH the X5 and the X3 are getting EXACTLY 16.3 mpg. The X3 has 570mi and the X5 3,290mi. My Saab Convertible (210hp turbo) is getting 26.1 mpg.

What do you do if you don't mind me asking?

I'll be honest... I am actually just a poor ol PreMed student at the moment. My passion for and knowledge of cars far exceeds my fathers so I am his advisor in that department. So far he/we have not been disappointed. I was driving the 745 and will be driving the M5 and he has had the G55. The CLK Black will be for the weekends and such. Oh and he owns an Ice Manufacturing company in Central Cali (100+ degree temperatures!)

Notice the change in cars. It's mainly because I did some right investments at the right time. I also did some tax deeds investments and flipped the properties for good profits. I'm sure you guys know what they are. I'm turning 24 if you guys were wondering how old I am. Young to drive the cars I own now but I love them and I can afford them(not to sound ignorant). So i'm very greatful and never take anything for granted. Anyways that's also why I was looking for a sports car. It would suit me better.

I got into the whole "I want the latest luxury car" phase but after driving the LS as a daily driver and the S550 mainly as a weekend car I got bored. I have a friend who works at Audi as a salesman. I told him I wanted the R8 and I have been put on the waiting list. It's minimum a year apparently. I did put a down payment to the owner of the dealership so I hope he can push me up that list. The owner did tell me if I did decide to get another car he would give me the $ back 100%. However unless some other company comes out with something better in the next year I won't be backing out. Actually let me rephrase that, unless I make more money in the next year and I can afford something even better, I won't be backing out. However about me making more $ in the next year is not 100% because i'm into stock trading, real estate, and advertisement/marketing. So it all really depends.

But to answer your question Sailor, I have thought about the 911 Turbo and the V8 Vantage. Opinions are much needed guys. Thanks!

Actually I think it lives up to the hype and then some. If you havent really been keeping up with R8 vs 911 news, the R8 actually beats the 911 Turbo around a track because of its superior balance. The 911 is rear heavy and a bit narrow while the R8 is a mid-engined, super wide beast. It handles amazingly, has 100% of the features available in cars of this caliber and actually beats the 911. I think its not hype we are talking about here... its plain facts. The R8 has ARRIVED... and it is one heck of a car!

Both are fantastic performance vehicles-But the fact that the R8 made it across the Nurburgring 5 seconds faster than the 911TT dosen't really make a difference on US streets and highways.
IMO:
I really like the style of the Aston Martin DB9 and Vantage V8 (convertible of course). Sure, it lacks the power and raw performance, but it feels more like an elegant Italian Yacht versus the 911TT, which is like a high performance cigarette race boat.
The R8 is nice, but it isn't "established" like the other models. If you like the sophistication of the S550 and LS then this is different.
Other considerations? Maybe the Nissan GT-R? (too cheap? get two) I like the M6, and there's also the CLK63 and RS4. Not sure if it's your taste but if you have the $$ you have Bentley GTC. Good luck

mstang, after reading so many articles on it (and drooling over the pictures), the R8 just might be THE best car on the market right now. It isn't the fastest, or the most luxurious- but it's damn close to being the sexiest, can beat 99% of the otehr cars on the road and is still ultra-luxurious on the inside. I think Agent63 should stick to his choice. The 911 is the "default choice," where the R8 is something new and refreshingly different. The AMs, while beautiful, aren't that great to drive, nor to own. I just feel like the R8 is a perfect sports car that could do everything I ask of it... except seat more than two.

For that, Agent will use his S550.

Yup... I agree 100 percent. The R8 is the greatest overall sports car you can buy for under 200k right now. I think that it takes seeing this car in person for nonbelievers to believe in the sheer elegance and beauty of the beast. An AMV8 parked next to this thing would be like parking a Lambo next to a porche. Yeah the porsche is a nice looking car, but the Lambo is just so out there and so different and just stunning that no one would even care to look at the poor ol porsche. Oh and of course its going to be one of the best drivers cars you can possibly buy. God I wish I was further up the list for the R8... (currently #12 at a dealership looking at an allocation of around 5 this year)

long answer: If s4's house was in the middle of Kansas, for example, it would be much less expensive then it is now. But due to location, the price goes up, even if the house dosen't. I don't know if it works that way in Den., but location has a significan relation to price.
Note- the inside of S4's house is as nice as the outside.

Nobody can talk to me about high house prices, here in London ordinary 4 bed semi detached houses with small gardens and no off street parking go for 2 million dollars.

I deal in the technological field, based here in Raleigh, NC. My hometown is New Bern, NC (the birthplace of Pepsi) and I often commute in between the two cities (about a 2.5 hour drive) at least 3 times a month.

Likewise, my black 2002 Lexus LS 430 has collected a lot of miles, and it still runs flawlessly.

I also have a black 2003 Lexus RX 330 for the Mrs.

We also have a 2005 Chrysler 300C in cool vanilla.

Admittedly not a lot of cars, but hope to change that very soon. I'm of course going to upgrade the LS 430 to either an LS460L or an LS600hL. If I do the 460, then I would also be able to go after a new Audi TT (yes, I seriously like the new TT) AND I would hold out for a Lexus IS convertible, AND trade the 300C towards something else undecided. OR, most likely, I will get the 600 and then just the TT and wait for the IS convertible. And yes, I can afford all of this.

May I butt in- what would be the point of both the TT and IS? IS for country clubbing, TT for weekends and the like? Just wondering...

I would buy a TT regardless because I AND my wife really like it (which doesn't happen often). This is the first time where I will freely admit that we would have gotten an SC 430 a long time ago, but neither one of us liked it! And I would look at getting an IS convertible for that same reason; I want a Lexus convertible, just not one that looks like the current SC...

Sounds about as confusing as my current automotive position. We have four cars- the S4, RX, A3 and Civic. The S4 and A3 are mine, which I have mentioned, but my younger son will be taking the A3 next year, as I have also mentioned. The RX (obviously) is my wife's. The Civic is for my elder son, and my daughter doesn't need a car because she lives in the city. The Civic used to be hers, though.

I feel that I'm not going to get another winter car, so I want another "all-purpose" car that I can drive all year. I know I can drive the S4 all year, too, but I want something different. I've been considering getting my wife a CLK350 Cabrio/XK Convertible (complete change of direction), because she has always wanted a convertible, and I'd get myself an S8 or M5. Thoughts?

Nice choices S4...I'll throw you my .02. The CLK and XK are both nice cars. What you might also which could save you a little money would be a 335 convert, or even a boxster, which are in the same price range you seem to be looking at. Disregard the boxster if you want a 4-seater, though.

As for your choice, why not wait a little bit a put your name in for the RS6? The best of both worlds between the S8 and the M5. Just a thought...

The CLK is up for a redesign soon. If a higher-ended convertible is in your mind, I would go for the XK. And I also agree about the RS6, it would seem to be the perfect bridge between an S8 and an M5.

No, we don't have packages for Porsche models. Go to porscheusa.com and see for yourself. We do have "Preferred Package(s)" on some models, but you can also choose individual options as you like. You can have a 911 with carbon fiber inserts, a wood steering wheel, leather door finishers and painted seat backs.

And the IS-F is of course on sale where you live, in US-L (United States of Lexus), as is the LS600h.

The Porsche also has a few aftermarket engine parts which include Tubi exhaust , F77 Carbon Airbox ,ECU recalibration , and short throw shifter. I did not lower the car nor did I place an aerokit on it as I prefer a more understated appearance .

I never liked the sound of tubi on Porsche's flat-six engine. Tubi is good for Ferraris.

Porsche has its own PSE system that sounds way better in my opinion.

I did research the PSE with X51 , the AWE system, Tubi/F77 and all were quality parts .

I would not have complained with any of these choices yet selecting the one which I liked the most might not be the same as another Porsche owner -- and yes I liked the Tubi F77 combination for my C2S.

When personalizing these high end cars with engine upgrades I have found that enjoying the different engine/exhaust configurations only adds to the fun of having the car .

I have definitely thought about the 335i convertible, and I have added it to our list. The Boxster, on the other hand, is not a "wife" car. She wants a comfortable convertible, and though I know the Boxster is comfortable, it's too low, too much of a sports car. I think you know what I mean. For her, it's like buying a Lotus Elise.

Great minds think alike! I've considered this, too, as well as the S6. Until the RS6 comes out, I can't be sure of whether or not I'll look at it, so the S6 is a temporary filler. I know I'd love owning any of the four sedans I've mentioned.

2007 Lexus RX400h AWD, white with tan. Just bought it a month ago to replace a 2002 BMW X5 4.4. Quite a different driving experience from the BMW, but it's very comfortable, quiet, and easier on gas and emissions. The X5 was starting to have annoying issues like dash buttons falling off, A/C fan failure, etc. The X5 replaced a 2001 BMW 740iL that I drove for less than a year because of numerous electrical problems that drove me nuts.

2004 Audi TT Coupe, 3.2l Quattro, silver with black. WOW! I bought it for fun, and it is, it is--just not terribly practical since the backseat doesn't hold normal-sized humans. It only has 8,500 miles on it after almost three years...I need to get out more
