Ford selling Jaguar and Land Rover

Recently it was revealed that BMW had considered buying Volvo from Ford’s Premier Auto Group, and had gone so far as to order in a set of the Swede carmaker’s latest financial reports. Now it is reported that Ford has been in talks with Fiat Group over a possible sale of Jaguar and Land Rover.

The information comes from a source familiar with the talks who spoke recently with Automotive News. According to the source, Ford has hired investments banks Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley to oversee the sale of the Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo brands but the talks which began with Fiat back in February have come been called off.

huh, so Ford baught Volvo, Jaguar, Range Rover, Austin Martin, and more and instead of taking the better technology and quality of these companies and integrate them into their junky Ford product line, they did the reverse in some cases (like Volvo and Jaguar), they used their junk to replace a what used to be a good name and quality. And now, they're getting rid of all they bought.
Volvo and Jaguar lost their bright name since they becamse under Ford.
So the question now becomes, what did Ford learn from this purchase? The answer is, NOTHING.

I totally agree. And I still dont understand why ford wants to sell Land Rover when it is succesful.

I think it's good that Ford wants to get back to focusing on themselves. Free yourself from the burden of managing all those brands so you can focus on your own!!!

That said, I do NOT want Volvo to go to BMW... I would love to see all three brands go to Fiat.

Although it makes sense that Ford is streamlining, it doesn't that they would sell either of these brands. If they want to remain a "big" car brand, they need premium products- other than the pseudo-luxury Lincoln brand. Land Rover is a great brand, as their products are beautifully designed; they just need better electronics (for better reliability). Jaguar is definitely on the rise, what with the new XF coming soon.
