Maserati Spy Shot at 2007 Barcelona Motor Show

Maserati introduced in Barcelona the amazing sports car Granturismo. The car is equipped with a 4.5-litre V8, for a horsepower output of 500 hp. According to some “Web gossip”, these engines could be accompanied by a “Cambiocorsa” gear or a new six speed ZF gear.

The other queen of Maserati's stand was the elegant top class sedan Quattroporte, equipped with a brand new automatic gearbox.

My Maser dealer said it would be a 4.7 liter V8.

I hate shifting gears at my age. Just give me a conventional 6- or 7-speed auto with something like Triptronic and I'll be happy. I don't trust Cambriocorsa any more since the initial version was so jerky. With a conventional auto and the future 4.7 litre this car will be perfect.

"The lack of a manual rules out this vehicle as a performance car."

"No manual=no soul."

"Auto slushboxes are so 'American uneducated driver-like.'"

All phrases I've been told more than once in many different variations here on this site...

Good point. It is rather for the nouveau riche, given its luxury-rather-than-performance interior and tranny. It is tailored to suit the sedentary losers who made their money with the dot-coms, and have no taste for art. (in this case cars)

Exactly how low are the journalism standards around here, anyway?

1. A "spy shot" of a vehicle that's already been unveiled and which is available to purchase is not a "spy shot". It's a "photograph".
2. I don't know who "Horisly" is but he apparently couldn't take the time to confirm the 4.2L 405hp V8, which is the GranTurismo's only engine.
