CNET: The 10 ugliest cars we've seen
Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but we know ugly when we behold it. As part of our design month here at CNET Car Tech, we round up the 10 reviewed vehicles that are most likely to offend aesthetic sensibilities. Check out our rogue's gallery of auto eyesores.

I agree with most of them, but for the following:

Acura MDX - overstyled front, but not ugly.

Kia Rondo - more bland than ugly IMHO.

The Q7 is the ugliest vehicle on the market, I've noted this many times before. However the Lexus LX570 will take over this "honor" when it comes to market in less than a year.

The second ugliest vehicle is the Jeep Compass, and the third is the Chrysler Sebring sedan.

Will_Will_ - 6/12/2007 12:59:26 PM

It's the angles of the photos: they deliberately took each vehicle at its worst angle.

The Acadia looks very good from the front.

The Q7 looks better in darker colors.

The Escalade EXT doesn't look as good as its full SUV brethren, but it's not hideous.

And the Quest is about the only minivan I would ever even think about considering if I were in the market for one.

My question is where is the 5-Series and X3?

ShredmoShredmo - 6/12/2007 1:16:51 PM

True, they took the photos deliberately at the worst angles. The photos are only there to prove their point. If it was 10 hottest women, I can assure you, they would take the photos at the best possible angles :)

Jeep Commander?
Dodge Charger?

Simplicity is king. Most of the modern day cars are over-designed and offer little in functionality and practicality. IN my view the design and marketing teams should not be paid more that the engineering and testing ones.

i agree vdiv> good clean lines, a xlnt paint job, and nice funtional interior with the best of materials makes for a winner. A little flare in sculpure is okay but for the most part a car that sits right and looks good at all angles is what somebody should strive for in the industry, but they won't?

I must add in all fairness that Ford has seen the light with this Edge and MKZ crossover, nice clean lines and good size they two should get a look at purchase time>

I think the Nissan Quest has a nice profile... It's the sportiest of any minivan out there so there definitely is a market for it. If they add some beauty to the front and rear (cleaner grille, HID projectors, LED tails) then it may be able to redeem itself.

The swooping line along the window is beautiful to me though but that's just one aspect of this vehicle.

-eye of the beholder

BTW Don't agree with MD-X.It looks pretty good, very sharp and modern.

The Nissan is the ugliest of the bunch, followed closely by the Element (looks like it belongs in Japan). Saw a Nissan on the road the other day and I remember thinking, "What the hell is THAT?" It looks like an oddly-proportioned hearse. The Q7 isn't ugly at all. Looks like a bigger version of the rest of their cars. RDX isn't bad either. Tribeca is just weird.

Toyotaman, the LX has the blandest styling out of ANY of the Lexuss. Looking at it makes me want to yawn, because it's styling is about 15 out of date.

The main problem that I have with the CLS is the side windows. They are way too small, and look very disproportional to the rest of the car. On the other hand, the current S-class is looking very good.

I don't think there are any REALLY ugly cars in production at the moment (although Jeep is pushing it with the Compass) I'd say they're all just cars that don't quite look right from certain angles, but they're far from ugly. Now the Pontiac Aztec, that was a butt ugly piece of machinery. But I can't think of one car out now, currently in production that comes even close to that example. Anyone?

JUGNU, you know you want the Q7 S-Line. It's better than "little nice."

As others have said, CNET is the last place I would go to for a design review. They're a technology website! And I don't agree with much of this list.

As for senorgato, "boring?" The Q7 is furthest from bland than any SUV on the road. It's definitely a love it/hate it design, and although most people I've talked to love it, you're entitled to your opinion. But boring? C'mon!

And the MDX... the front-end grabs your attention with its ugliness, but then the rest is just a cliché. The Q7-copying rear end is certainly nice.

I dont agree with them at all. Except with the subbie which is a total mess. The q7 is not ugly at all and has a nice side profile. Only problem is the cheap looking 2 tone colour and those massive ugly reflectors.

oh and i think the cls' rear is just a total mess.
The side profile is sexy looking and the front is nice but the rear is propertionally wrong and the tail lights look too small with the bonnet going down and ugly looking.

i agree with thesailor and rupert about those ugly ssangyoungs! Totally terrible! And also the buick suv ( i dont know what its called) has avery hideous rear.

The Acura I don't really like, liked the old one better. The Subaru deserves to be on there and the HHR is ugly too. Escalade looks great, the Kia is just bland, not ugly not good looking just plain.

Love the Q7 looks great especially with the 19s and S-Line. And the you can't make a mini-van look good but Nissan has the best looking one.

Dodge Caliber and Durango, Saab 9-5, Chrysler Sebring and PT Cruiser and Pacifica, Jeep Compass. They missed a lot that should be on there
