While diesel cars represent more than 50% of the cars sold in Europe,because their engine have low emissions of CO2,in Japan diesel cars are considered to be noisy,dirty and very slow.

Smart move. The company that's the FIRST to introduce a "clean" diesel will hit the jackpot while others catch up. Yes, I know BMW and MB currently have pretty good diesels, but they are not "clean" enough for the U.S., and are still having problems getting approval in all 50 states. More importantly, the average Joe can't shell out $50,000 for either car, but a Honda diesel most likely will go for $20,000. Until a car company introduces a diesel that's indistinguishable ("clean") from a gasoline car in terms of emissions and noise, diesel will still be the forgotten step child.

Come on Honda, beat Toyota to the punch: super diesel hybrid surprise!

this will be igneous. i agree Honda doesnt do too well with their hybrids but this diesel opt. will... im speechless i'll go to my honda dealership for more.

Agreed.

However, people already complain about the "expensive" up-front costs of hybrid and diesel technology. Combine the two and imagine how much more "expensive" that up-front cost would be. Probably wouldn't regain any money back from a diesel-hybrid system. I know automakers are working hard on a diesel-hybrid system, but I think the challenge is bringing the costs down so that you actually save. And if anyone is good at bringing the cost of technology down, it's Toyota and Honda.

Just do the simple math to find out how many stop-and-go miles you have to drive your hybrid car to regain the upfront cost. This is the main reason why I don't buy this hybrid BS.

Kudos to Honda. I hope Honda will spend more effort on diesel, and stop wasting effort on the hybrid BS.

Honda will still offer Hybrids in their small cars like Civic and the up and coming small 4-door car, cheaper than the Civic, that will directly compete with Prius mileage numbers.
