Carbon Fiber is in short supply because Gordon's been using them up for testing ;P (joking).

The price increase is resultant of the short supply of CF. The majority of it is being used for the Boeing 787. There are only a limited number of CF suppliers out there and with Boeing retaining most of their output, car manufacturers have to pay a premium to use it.
