Fifth Gear: New Ford Mondeo - most technologically advanced Ford ever

Yes this is a Ford built car and we have no idea why we don’t get it in the US. Did you know that 1 in 5 large saloons in England is a Ford Mondeo? The car has amazing exterior design and a luxurious interior. In fact this is the most technologically advanced Ford ever built.

The car is powered by two petrol options including a 1.6-litre, 2.0-litre and the range topping 2.5 liter Duratec producing 220 horsepower. Diesel options include the 1.8 liter Duratorq TDCi and a 2.0 litre Duratorq TDCi with a choice of a manual or a 6-speed automatic with ‘Sportsmode’.

I agree. Euro Fords are really not bad in terms of exterior and interior designs. But the American Fords are eyesores.

Ford America should just get rid of that ugly Fusion, and replace it with the Mondeo.

Not incompetence, it is about money. It is just too expensive to sell this car here. It starts at $30k in UK and that is more than the Accord and Camry. They can strip it, but then it will just be the regular Ford. Just like GM brought down the materials and features in the Aura and Astra to sell them here.

Too expensive? Are you sure? people are paying $30k+ for that horrible ass Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300M. Sure, they look pretty decent on the outside when you slap some 20"'s on them, but inside that car is standard Dodge... which by the way = cheapest car on the planet.

this is why living in sxm is the best. We get the European Asian South American and North American cars lol. I am actually thinkin to special order the Mondeo I was building one online and Ill rather spend my money on a Mondeo then a Ford Edge

Ford needs to bring this car to the U.S. but now. What is their problem? I think the company deserves to crash and burn when they give us second rate crap and give the good stuff to Europe. For crying out loud, who is in charge of market research at Ford?

This is the only Ford I love. The Mondeo looks great!. I have only seen one from that Casino Royale movie and it looked great in it.

What's up with the marketing term "Duratorq" for the diesel -- It tells me nothing. It's a given that diesels have lots of torque but if Ford wants to tell me that their diesel has some unique features then they should spell it out instead of hiding behind some silly meaningless marketing term. Usually marketing guys dream up a term like "Duratorq" to imply something good when there is nothing special to brag about.

Why don't you stop worrying about trivial matters such as what Ford calls their Diesel engines.

Maybe they have a longer stroke than competitors cars so produce relatively more torque?

Maybe you should find out?

Maybe the name 'Duratorq' isn't actually meant to be an engineering lesson?

So instead of Ford writing 'Duratorq' on their engine covers, you want them to create a badge stating 'High-torque output relative to the competition and they are also very durable and will last for many miles'?

For goodness sake, why cant ford motors (U.S.America) go hybrid (as well as diesel) in order to boost the sales of their vehicles? As the cost of fuel continue to rocket, gas-guzzling technology will be out of favor and the health of sales will contiune to deteriorate. U.S auto makers should learn from the Japanese.
