2007 BMW 7-Series Expert Review

2007 BMW 7 Series is excellent, let's listen how does the expert talking about the 7 series.

BMW critics no longer can jokingly kick around "Bangle's Butt" because the automaker has revised the bulky rear styling of its latest 7-Series flagship sedan, designed under the direction of BMW design chief Chris Bangle.

Bangle was out to give BMW a new look with the fourth-generation 7-Series sedan, which arrived for 2002 and replaced the cleaner looking 1995-2001 version. But the new car's offbeat styling—especially its rear end—was the immediate target of critics.

Critics also hurled rocks at the 2002 model's complicated iDrive control system, which involved using a console knob and dashboard display screen to eliminate conventional dashboard controls and handle such things as audio, climate and navigation adjustments. Many 7-Series owners felt iDrive was too complicated to use, especially when driving, and they were right.

In practically every review, bar the first ones of pre-production model vehicles, the new LS has also been commended for having surprisingly good driving dynamics when flicked to "Sport" mode.

But you speak of the more sporty iterations of these vehicles. I ask you: how many S65 drivers are taking their cars to the track every weekend? S8 drivers? Quattroporte drivers? I bet the number is pretty low.

To imply that all these four-door luxury sedans should all strive to be two-door sportscars is quite ridiculous. Clearly the market for smooth, refined sedans isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

I see your point, I'm not missing it, but you're missing mine. The whole purpose of a luxury four-door sedan is to pamper, indulge and isolate its occupants from the little annoyances that come with the task of driving.

I'd much rather take an S550 over an S63 if it meant getting a smoother, quieter engine and a softer suspension. I'm sorry if that somehow offends you all here, it's just my preference.

What's funny about that review and the corresponding French one is that both review firms flat-out said that they ranked them in terms of driving dynamics, putting luxury, refinement and comfort low on the criteria list. In fact, they even printed that the LS was the smoothest and most refined of the bunch...

Why only bring up the LS and not the S. And secondly, i do not believe the LS will be able to compete with it on the handling front. The interior is also preferable on the 7, not to mention the higher prestige that will come driving it.

How is something a myth when its confirmed everytime someone is testing it ? :) , just face it, beemer makes driving machines, lexus makes superior luxury cars...

There always seems to be alot of criticism on the bangle design theme, but I've always thought that except for the Quattroporte, the 7 series is the best looking 4 door sedan available. Most sedans in this class handle well, some lean towards luxury, some lean towards performance. The BMW is the latter.

I'm excited that this thread has yet to turn into an LS-bashing festival. (At least until ServorIsBusty arrives...)

I think it's good that we can all realize that the 7-Series is geared towards a whole different customer than your run-of-the-mill S-Class and LS buyer. The former looks for supreme road dynamics, the latter look for supreme luxury amenities.

I guess I'm a victim of the "last-generation was sooo much better" syndrome that most Lexus naysayers seem to catch more often, but...the last-generation 7-Series was sooo much better from an elegant design perspective.

You cant say the old one was so much better, just "cleaner" and more simple. The new one has more road presence too.
