First Drive: 2008 Aston Martin DBS

The DBS will launch the new Aston Martin era with one hell of a bang. Set to go into production in October, it'll be quicker than any Aston road car before it, thanks to its massaged V-12. It'll weigh about 220 pounds less than a regular DB9. It'll wear a body kit designed to help it slice through the air more cleanly. And it'll introduce high-tech materials and a new upgraded cockpit for the entire DB line.

Why are they shy about admitting this is a Vanquish replacement? I much prefer the DBS's subdued elegant lines and gentle curves to the gigantic muscles jutting out of the Vanquish. The DBS takes the theme of the gorgeous DB9 and improves upon it adding just the right touch of sporty elements.

I want one bad.

I would take a DBS over ten Vanquishes, to be honest. Huge improvement, EVERYWHERE.

The interior is literally 100 times better than that of the Vanquish. The Vanquish interior was just awful- literally there were plastic buttons in it that were in 13-14 year old Jaguars.

I take Bez and Reichman at their word that this is not the replacement of the Vanquish. The Aston Martin flagship has to(IMO) seperate itself both visually and from a performance standpoint from the DB9 to compete with the best from Ferrari. The DBS seems to be a variant of the DB9 albeit a much more powerful one.
Seems to me that the Vanquish replacement will not be subtle like the DB9/S but an outrageous looking exotic to compete with the Ferrari 599 GTB or Enzo.
