What? UK Wants to Give Psychological Testing for New Drivers

BBC News reports on government plans to introduce a psychometric component to the UK driving test. Under these plans, before passing the driving test in the UK, it will be compulsory to show the right psychological attitudes to road safety. It's a nice idea that we might be able to eliminate at least some of the dangerous drivers from our roads with one simple paper and pencil test. Unfortunately from a psychological viewpoint it's a fundamentally flawed plan.

I think i understand why!

I have read that UK teenagers are the most problematic kids in westurn european countries.

Thats a good way to lower potential accidents.

They're really not like me, I'm sane.

British teenagers are cocky and frankly arrogant, I would actually raise the driving age to 18 from 17. Most don't give a damn about drink/drug driving, seatbelts etc.

The UK sounds like a very driver unfriendly place. Speed cameras, SUV nazis, congestion tolls, satellite governed speed limiters, what is next?

All I can say is "From my cold, dead stick-shift!"
