Lexus ES 350 2007

They just keep slapping the whole "It's based off of the Camry" line in Lexus's face. As if no one knows this. Critics have only used that line several million times before in the past.

I'm liking the style of this car. The ES has come a very, very long way from being a simple re-badged Camry.

The glass roof actually keeps the interior cooler than the the standard roof also.

It doesn't really matter what "us enthusiasts" think of this car right? It's a front-wheel drive luxury sedan that also happens to be the best-selling vehicle for the Lexus brand. I personally think it is a very good choice for its segment, which whether anyone likes it or not, is the same segment as the 3-Series and C-Class. I'd definitely take the luxury of a ES over a 3-Series for the $$$, even disregarding that I've never really liked the Bugatti grille-shaped center console.

But if you look at a '07 Acura TL, you'll get both luxury and performance even despite it being a FWD!

The ES is a very solid vehicle. I've driven one and it drives and rides extremely well. It's no sports sedan but nor is it intended to be. And for the money, it's hard to beat.

i agree, i was looking for used ones, and they had gr8 prices on those w/ low mi. (the ones up to 2001 tht is)

my aunt has an old one and is a gr8 car to be. .

The ES is a nice car for the non-enthusiast. I even recommended it some some of my colleagues, who didn't care for handling/sportiness and wanted more room than in a 3-series, A4 or C-class.

On the other hand, if Lexus really wants to be a true BMW/MB competitor, sooner or later they would have to stop offering large FWD cars.

Perhaps a "car guy" that has an affinity for luxury automobiles as opposed to only "performance" automobiles would prefer an ES over a 3-Series, XDrive. Can you stop having tunnel vision for one moment in your life?

SOMEBODY PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHERE THE NOTION CAME FROM THAT IF SOMEONE HAPPENS TO LIKE AUTOMOBILES MORE TUNED FOR "LUXURY" AND NOT JUST "PERFORMANCE" THAT THAT MEANS THEY'RE "NOT AN ENTHUSIAST?" IS IT NOT POSSIBLE TO BE "ENTHUSIASTIC" ABOUT CARS THAT EXCEL IN CRAFTSMANSHIP AND AMENITIES/DRIVER COMFORT AS OPPOSED TO HOW WELL IT TAKES A CORNER?

This point is shoved in people's faces way too much around here, and I am determined to understand where this attitude comes from. I will not hesitate to post it in any other thread, as many times as it takes until I get a straight response!

And the Lexus guys don't slam BMWs? C'mon you are being a little hypocritical. In fact, the Lexus guys bash the most here.

Righton xdrive. Will, I agree with you that lexus makes the best cars in the their category which is all the way on the side of luxury. Their interiors are the most beautiful I have seen and most of their features show a great degree of thoughtfulness. I had an LS myself and was unfortunately bored to tears not with the power and even handling but I could feel any involvement with the driving experience.I felt like I was inside a comfortable theater watching a video of my drive to and from work and the scenery going by. This is not a personal insult to you but I think all of us that love the driving experience wonder what you are doing even reading these threads. I mean to take the trouble to read and engage and answer comments is much more effort than it takes to drive a Lexus. Maybe when you get home from driving you need something exciting like CAPITOLIZING YOUR WORDS!

Well thank you, you two. However, you mention all this, and yet even without me and my comments, the discussions are almost always over trivial information about the brands people dislike. Where is all the discussion about the driving experience? Also, think about how boring this site would be if everything was just about the "driving experience."

Every BMW article could just say "It handles like a razor" and let that be the end of it. We all know this is not the case.

And my point is simply this: there are many types of auto enthusiasts. To say that all "auto enthusiasts" only care about the driving experience is very frustrating to me. By saying this, you're implying that the team of engineers that worked on the Bentley Continental, designing such a beautiful car to excel in ALL aspects of an automobile are not automobile enthusiasts? What an insult to the team of people who worked extremely hard on that car.

What I keep realizing is that most here simply do not understand the full definition of "enthusiast." There are American auto enthusiasts, but we all know American cars rarely excel in driving like a BMW, does that mean they are not an enthusiast?

Anyway, I don't care anymore. Nobody here can tell me that I'm no auto enthusiast because I don't have a German car that can take a 90-degree turn at 100 miles per hour.

...and I CAPITALIZED out of FRUSTRATION. AND YES, IT IS QUITE EXHILARATING!

Lexus ALWAYS understates their 0 - 60 times by at least .5 seconds. Here are the results of the 5 Top Luxury Cars in this test which was reported in the January Issue of Car and Driver. Please note these tests were all done on the same day at about the same time and at the same altitude. The results reflect the average of 3 runs and all cars are the 2007 vintage.

Mercedes S550 5.6, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.1 (Benz show 5.4 in their specs)
BMW 750iL 5.7, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.2
Jag XJ Super 6.0 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.5
Lexus LS460L 6.2 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.6
Audi A8 6.8 0 - 60 quarter mile 15.2

Note that Lexus, as usual, is more than the 5.4 the manufacturer CLAIMS to get by .8 seconds.

Also note the LS430 (prior model the LS460 replaced) was rated at 295 HP and was actually 278 when Lexus corrected their rating. And there were no refunds or apologies from the so-called "quality" car company. ABC - Always Be Careful what you buy from the (REPREHENSIBLE) Toyota/Lexus people.....
