Speaking of the GS...

The new GS's design gets alot of crap from the Euro-fanatics for being "bloated", (not that I particularly care, just making an observation) but I just have to say that I think the GS has a gorgeous design.

In my opinion, it's one of the most beautifully-designed sedans in ages (bar the CLS, but not even Mercedes wants you to call it a "sedan"). I love the fastback, sweeping roofline coupled with the soft angles of the headlights and straight character line.

As with all cars, black, navy blue and other dark colors really bring out the true character of its design in my opinion. But only the 430 and 450h's wheels will do on it, the 300's small wheels ruin it!

With L-Finesse, the Lexus brand finally has its own distinct design language, which was one of the biggest criticisms of the brand, pre-GS.

I totally forgot about the G-Spider wheel option on the GS. Black GS with G-Spider wheels sounds like an awesome combination!

Hmm, Lexus STILL doens't have an own design philosofy. They still copy. Just look at the new LS.

Others are entitled to their own opinions as well. The GS is attractive in certain colors, with certain wheels (I'm sure your black GS is nice). But yes, it can truly look ungainly in bland colors with small wheels. Take the standard GS350, for instance. It looks significantly cheaper and uglier than the GS450h.

That goes for nearly every car in any class. All the lower-ended models with smaller wheels and basic exterior tidbits do not look as good as the higher-up models.

The standard E350 looks terrible to me next to an E550 Sport, or E63 AMG.

The 525i looks stupid next to the 550i, and M5.

A6 3.2? Skip it, spring for the 4.2 or S6.

His black GS430 with G-Spider wheels undoubtedly looks good, and I said that I prefer the 430 and 450h already.

And if you call the LS haiving a 5-Series design as Lexus not having their own, then Mercedes totally does not have their own anymore...Look at the actual car in discussion: this LF-A is all its own. It's not Lexus, for it is a totally new venture for the brand, but this cannot be mistaken for any other car from any other brand, and everyone here knows that.

if the gs was not bloated it wouldnt look as nice thats what i think. it is a design that takes getting used to and i think german fans as i am too i love the gs l finesse design. it is very japanese and looks beautiful.

I am one of the biggest fans of the Lexus GS. It may be bloated but who cares! It looks amazing and if I didn't get my LS it would have been the GS (probably the 450H). If I had to sell my S550 for a Lexus it would be the GS. I'm a fan of the L-Finesse I admit that. Just not a fan of the fans. Baseless claims I tell ya!.. Uh oh...another flame war waiting to happen. Seems like everyone wants the new digital speedometer needles "A La S-Classe" The only problem is Why would Lexus use one on the RPM Gauge on what they claim is a true sports car?

The digital rapidly moving gauges are less accurate than the traditional and have a slower response time. I would accept it on a regular car, but on a high performance it doesnt seem right

The traditional gauges would probably look more aggressive since they are 'real' and not just a digital image. However it all depends on the processing speed in which the computer detects the speed of the wheel spinning. I don't doubt there will be a slight delay.

Have you guys ever driven at triple-digit speeds constantly? Normal needle-style gauges are extremely hard to read pretty much under all circumstances in comparison to digital gauges, let alone when wearing a helmet traveling at high speeds. Fun fact: F1 cars have digital speed displays.

I don't like the GS because it does look disproportionate... very awkward especially from fromt 3/4s view. Now the IS I think is Lexus' most successful four door sedan design. I have looked that car over from stem to stern and I really find all angle of it nice, better than even my 3 series I have. I didn't but it cause I love the fun-to-drive factor and Lexus is just down a block from my BMW dealer here in Manhattan and I drove em back to back. And the Bimmer is more fun to drive. BUT I am not a fanboy...I am a lover of cars and design and I have to say the Lexus IS IMO looks the best in this catergory of automobile. The big Lexus LS even has grown on me some seeing on the streets here in Manhattan. But the GS...nahh...don't like it,nor the ES. But the LS and IS are hopeful as are the spy shots of their new supercar.

I never liked the GS either. I much prefer the LS, and I would prefer a more saloon-like design for the GS, rather than a sort of half-coupe effect thing.

Yes, exactly! It's one of those cars where there are some very attractive details, but when you put them together, it just doesn't work very well. The E-Class and 5 Series look much more balanced (the refreshed 5, love it or hate it, has a great body).

As for the A6... some days, I am bored of it; on others, it captivates me. I do know that it always looks good with the S-Line kit, but in all honestly, if I were shopping for a mid-size sedan, I probably wouldn't end up with it. I had the 3.2 quattro as a rental, and I have driven the A6 4.2 at the dealer, and neither were particularly exciting to drive.

The E-Class has always had a very classy look about it, but it is way too safe. "I'm very sure that will change with the next one, judging from their current designs.

The 5-Series is a monstrosity. Sure, the "body" is "balanced" but the headlights and rear, which cannot be escaped when looking at a 5-Series, screw up the whole thing.

The A6 I actually like. I see very many similarities to its design and the GS design.

Considering BMW 8250rpm 5.0L v10 outputs 500hp, how much hp do you expect from a more advanced Lexus 9000rpm 5.0L v10? Maybe it will use the new Valvematic too. ^o^

haha... M3's 4.0L v8 is high rev, gas guzzler, LEV
IS-F's 5.0L v8 with only less than 7,000rpm, fuel efficient and ULEV. It possibly will put out ~450hp not just 400hp.

Not just rev much higher. Lexus will very likely add direct injections (maybe even the new developed valematic, 10% gain on power alone with this) to it. Right now I think 550hp estimation for LF-A 5.0L v10 would be very conservative. :)

400lb. ft. of torque (M3) is nothing to sneeze at.

M3s 295 torque vs. IS-F 5.0 385 trq (used in the LS600h) do the math

yea i know the fron might need some adjustment, but the rear looks so nice and unique, they need to keep it the same for sure.

Lexus ALWAYS understates their 0 - 60 times by at least .5 seconds. Here are the results of the 5 Top Luxury Cars in this test which was reported in the January Issue of Car and Driver. Please note these tests were all done on the same day at about the same time and at the same altitude. The results reflect the average of 3 runs and all cars are the 2007 vintage.

Mercedes S550 5.6, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.1 (Benz show 5.4 in their specs)
BMW 750iL 5.7, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.2
Jag XJ Super 6.0 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.5
Lexus LS460L 6.2 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.6
Audi A8 6.8 0 - 60 quarter mile 15.2

Note that Lexus, as usual, is more than the 5.4 the manufacturer CLAIMS to get by .8 seconds.

Also note the LS430 (prior model the LS460 replaced) was rated at 295 HP and was actually 278 when Lexus corrected their rating. And there were no refunds or apologies from the so-called "quality" car company. ABC - Always Be Careful what you buy from the (REPREHENSIBLE) Toyota/Lexus people.....
