By the way, the Veyron has 1001 horsepower to 1050 ranging from engine temperature. Not 987.

Probably that's the number according to US power rating.

What a coincidence that I was just reading up on the Veyron on Wikipedia.

"On another Top Gear episode (broadcast on 4 February 2007) James May tested the car's top speed of 253 mph at Ehra-Lessien in Germany, which has a straight piece of track of 5.5 miles long, suitable for the test."

"In the after-comments section he said that the whole experience was rather disorienting, as he thought he had stopped and was ready to open the door when he looked at the speedometer and it was still at 70 mph."

I can't even imagine traveling that fast. The closest I think I'll ever come to a similar sensation is that feeling you get, like you're still moving after you've already stopped roller-skating...

"In the after-comments section he said that the whole experience was rather disorienting, as he thought he had stopped and was ready to open the door when he looked at the speedometer and it was still at 70 mph."

That's James May aka Captian Slow who made that statement.

Enough said.

Oh, that Bugatti! I love that car. They're really a lot better looking in person because you can see the finer details and they look absolutely incredible. My neighbor has one of these, but unfortunately, he won't let anyone drive it because it costs $200k a year to register it and the insurance must be a killer.

I'm dead serious. But I did just talk to my neighbor and he sold it about two weeks ago. I do have pictures of it though. But I'm not in any of them.

See...and we were all fine and dandy with a simple joke and it had to be the Toyota[freak]man who just HAD to pull the Nazi part.

Check your history slick...just because VAG owns Bugatti, it doesn't mean the Veyron is German.

Excuse me?
I live in Europe and I am seriously offended by your comments.
How dare you pass such ridiculous racist judgment on what was a terrible war for both sides.
How dare you suggest that me, my countrymen and my fellow Europeans be killed, and that we were evil. Your constant references to Nazis, stupid Europeans and that you wish Europeans to be killed are offensive and frankly shocking.
If this is some sick joke; it's not funny. If you're serious; you need psychological help.
Agent001, please ban Toyotaman or I will simply never return to this site.

Toyotaman, if you've ever cracked open a history book you should know the Japanese and Germans were allies during WWII and both engaged in similar behavior.

Toyotaman, if German cars are Nazi cars and Japan was Germany's ally during the war, then how come Toyota and Lexus are also not Nazi cars? BTW, what's so honorable about mass hara-kiri when defeat is inevitable?

People are too funny here. Way to little knowledge of history here.

The Veyron is amazing and it makes the R8 appear to have an acceleration of a Yugo.

Well, actually, I can. It is over ten times the price.

trd1 - the R8 goes 0-60 in 3.9 sec (not bad)

you could buy 3 R8s and have a million left over. The video was not ripping on the Audi it was showing how fast 1001hp is

The interior of the Veyron is the most expensive in the world. There is not a single piece plastic. For instance the gearlever is made from ultra high grade magnesium and costs about 10000 euro.

Here is an interesting extract from an Stern article:
Bugatti president Thomas Bscher said the purpose of the car was not to make money: "The Veyron will never be profitable," he said. "We are doing it to keep the brand alive and for the prestige."

and from an Spiegel article :
Volkswagen wants to prove its "technical competence" with the Bugatti, emphasizes Volkswagen-Boss Bernd Pischetsrieder. "Others use Formula One for that, but this whole Bugatti project doesn't cost us more than what other companies spend for a single Formula One season."
