Test Drive: Bigger xB Means There's More To Love

Toyota has overhauled its Scion xB squarish sedan, leaving little but the name intact.

The 2008 xB is a foot longer, 3 inches wider, 600-plus pounds heavier, 14% thirstier and some two grand more expensive than the original xB. It also has 12% more passenger space, 53% more horsepower and 60% more torque.

All that because Scion owners "told us the new one should be just a little bigger" and more powerful, says Stephen. Haag, manager of the brand that Toyota invented to draw young buyers unimpressed by mainstream Toyotas.

Toyota ruined the XB. I was getting ready to finally buy one then was told that they wheir not taking any orders for the 06 cause the 08 where coming.

So they made it 800 pound heavier so to compensate they added a bigger engine which leads to 10 mpg less than the previous model. WTF??? Then there is a huge blind spot with those giagantic C pillars. WTF again???

So now looking at used XB's.

i'm a retired older guy but I love this car. Too bad it's not available in Canada and my wife hates it. The more powerful engine is most welcome.

This would be acceptable base-level transportation, but the Fit appears to be a smarter choice.
