Can the new 2008 CTS compete with its German rivals?

The main question on this topic is does the new CTS have what it takes to compete against it's Japanese and European rivals. There are many aspects to look at here. Quality, performance, and reliability are the three major points we are looking at.

Looking at the soon to be out-going CTS model the quality was horrible, the ride was not great, and performance it was under powered compared to it's counterparts. We give the CTS designers credit as it paved the road for present day Cadillacs (example: STS, DTS, and the Escalade).

The 2008 Cadillac CTS features GM’s new 3.6L direct-injection V-6 VVT engine, delivering an estimated 300 horsepower (223 kW). The numbers are impressive as it does meet "industry standards" in terms of power for these entry-level luxury sedans. There will also be a CTS-V with 500 horsepower and a six-speed transmission, a good match for European competitors like the Audi RS6, BMW M5 and Mercedes Benz E63 AMG edition which will boost up much more power for the speed demons.

I've heard good things about the 08' CTS. I do fear that although it may be much improved over its predecessors, it may not be improving at the rate that its competition is; or at least who Cadillac wants this car to compete against. Regardless, we will just have to wait and see. I for one am not in the market for a Caddy regardless of the outcome of this new CTS.

This got to be the Cadillac have ever seen, I love those Xenon headlight, it just stunning........It definitely has a European look in it design.

I just saw one of these on the road a week ago (I-96 near detroit) at night.....all I can say is WOW. Sexy, just downright sexy. The headlight arrangment is too much....I need this vehicle now.

In my opinion, I'd rather have this than any other car in its class. (however its only a tiny margin that this wins by, I'd still die for a new 3-series or C class, or an IS-350 for that matter!)

i think the interior is much better than the current model but its not the best one thats for sure. i think the exterior has lots of wow factor to it. it is very similar to cadi sixteen.

Improvement over the previous car, but i'm waiting fort he 09 TL, so it can blow this one away in terms of overall value just like the previous TL did. This to note atleast the dash faces straight now and not towards the driver like the previous model, that was a turn off right there.

you know what's funny? The fact that the dash wasn't aimed at the driver as much as in previous models was probably the #1 complaint about the new BMW 3-Series and 5-Series when they came out. Just goes to show, you can't please everyone.

You are, sadly, an Acura fanboy. I don't know where that is rooted.

I had a '90 Vigor and a '95 TL, and although the Vigor was some fun, the TL was utterly unimpressive. If "value" is the only reason for your buying an Acura, I pity you.

I will definitely own one of the new CTS's. I've taken a look at the competition, and I'm not persuaded. I'm sold on the exterior alone!

I think the interior is a major improvement, and it would be a big selling-point if I were looking at one. In my opinion, it looks more elegant and luxurious than all the other sports sedans in it class, of course I say that without even touching it. It doesn't look better than the ES though, which I think is the CTS's biggest competition between the CTS and STS...

Why did they wait 27 years!

This car would look nice with BBS racing type mags, lowered suspension and big wide weels in the back.
