Spy Shots: 2008 Ford Flex
One of our spy photographers spotted a Ford Flex driving on public roads - with a license plate! Seen last a few months ago at the New York International Auto Show - as a concept - the production debut of the Flex is still some time away.

But from look of it, the production Flex will look very much like the New York concept. In fact, we're hard pressed to spot any changes, save for some minor badge relocating. This particular car doesn't have the show car's projector-beam headlights, body-colored bumpers or chrome trim, but the wheels match those seen on the show car, as do the body panels and trim pieces.

With the test mule seen in these pictures virtually undisguised and looking production-ready, chances are that what you see here is what will show up in Ford showrooms early next year when the Flex goes on sale as a 2009 model. MORE PHOTOS CONTINUED....

that white/black TwoTone color is ''PURE SEXY'' I want that Flex SO BAD! wtf, this is the LAST thing Ford needs... what Ford DOES need is the Mondeo that is selling like Carollas (The millionth Carolla was sold on Tuesday June 20th, 2007.) Over in Europe. That is what Ford needs. But Ford will make on of those ''Ford Challanges like they did for the Fusion and '08 Escape.

I used to "day trade" F some 20 years ago when it was safe to do so but I don't own any Auto stocks today. I believe there was some talk about the Ford family considering the sale of some of their equity in F. If true, it's better to lose control than endure a substantial risk of losing everything. hopefully they don't have all their eggs in the Ford basket.

It follows a trend at Ford, interesting and bold designs. Pretty much everything since mullaly is better and better.

GM is doing something similar with Acadia - bold design that makes people like the car, not just for dull things like reliablity.. that's so 90's.

A vehicle this long should have the Ford F150 Twin Rail Frame, or the Lincoln Town Car Full Frame.

Full Frames make jacking and servicing a car very easy from a lower-maintenance standpoint. Cars today are going the way of Wal-Mart, cheap and dirty. Any Car that requires you to get the manual out to find a safe jacking point is a joke. Ford should get back to the durability approach, which propelled this company in the past with the F-Series. From a marketing standpoint this is what everyone is actually looking for, a more durable car, so why go the cookie-cutter uni-body approach?

This vehicle would be better served as a real-wheel Drive, and the 4.6L V8 would be a far better choice, then you could tow 4,000lbs with this vehicle. Most buyers of this vehicle will likely overtax it at some point, perhaps moving furniture and towing a trailer at the same time. V8s tend to be quieter and more refined, V6s tend to be noisy and vibrate through the cabin.. This vehicle of this weight will likely be underpowered with a V6, perhaps the Turbo Lincoln version will be a better choice, and worth the wait from a resale standpoint, as underpowered cars are tough on resale, years latter.

The 4speed auto on the V8 would of course need to be updated, 4 speed autos are so very dated. Ford should have been building 6 speed autos since the 90s. They lost a lot of ground here and are now only catching up. Even the big v8 sedans would have had higher MPG rating had they made the change to 6 speeds years ago.
