As we reported in the beginning of June, Audi may be working on a diesel variant of the R8. At that time all we knew for sure was that Audi may use a Q7’s 4.2 liter TDI engine that develops 326 horsepower with 561 lb-ft. of torque. AutoExpress has now digged up some new details.

According to AutoExpress, the 4.2 liter TDI engine will be hooked up to R8’s six-speed manual or automatic R-tronic transmission giving the car the ability to do 0-62 mph in around 5 seconds with a top speed of 160 mph. The four-wheel-drive supercar will have a combined fuel-economy around...

That's funny. I just read an article where Kate Dixon (Audi employee or something in the UK) states there will not be a diesel R8 due to the lack in space in the engine bay. "It just doens't fit, even the V8 TDI".

Yes - I did hear that about the V12 diesel concept they used in the Q7. I didn't know it about the V8 though.
